Today, we’d like to introduce you to Janelle Doll . Janelle was introduced to us by the brilliant and talented Janeal Ford.
Hi Janelle, we’re so thrilled to have you sharing your story with us today. Maybe we can kick things off by having you introduce yourself to our readers? We’d love to have you go into your story and how you got to where you are today.
In my last year at San Diego State University, I had an internship with a new coworking space – Hera Hub – as an Operations Intern. I was fortunate to be hired on as one of the first employees as Operations Coordinator, and eventually became the Director of Operations. This was a great opportunity to see how a business is built from the ground up and, importantly, how it can scale. After opening 3 locations in San Diego and licensing the model, I realized that I loved the experience of building the operational infrastructure, but did not enjoy the day-to-day maintenance. This inspired me to start my own consulting business, where I could work with solopreneurs and small teams to build out their operations. Operations is typically a combination of people, process, and technology, and finding how those can work together to improve the efficiency and efficacy of how a solopreneur or small team works is what I love to do!
Let’s talk about your work and career – what else should we know?
I think a lot of entrepreneurs are looking for solutions – and they find that there are lots of technological solutions on the market. I approach the work by first understanding WHAT you do and HOW you do it (or how you would like to do it) and then choose the technology. When you start with the technology, it can feel overwhelming – trying to figure out how to use all of software’s features for your company. When you start with the what and the how, choosing the right technology becomes much easier.
So, as we mentioned to our audience earlier, you were introduced to us by Janeal Ford and Fordable Fundraising and we really admire them and what they’ve built. For folks who might not be as familiar, can you tell them a bit about your experience with Fordable Fundraising.
Janeal and I met through the coworking space at which I was the Director of Operations. We happened to connect at a Thanksgiving dinner event at a time when Janeal’s team was growing, and her operations were not as clearly defined as they needed to be to ensure consistency and efficiency with that growth.
Janeal has a great team at Fordable Fundraising. They help nonprofits impliment grant seeking systems, and as I’ve learned over the past two years, there is more to it than one might think! The system assists charities with clearly articulating their activities, outcomes and to support relationship building. Ultimately, it helps nonprofits secure more resources for the amazing work that they do. Fordable Fundraising are true partners with their clients and have created incredible value for them.
As Fordable Fundraising’s Operations Consultant, I worked with the team to identify gaps in their operations and supported the prioritization and completion of several projects. In the past two years, our work together has resulted in enhanced operations in a number of areas, from sales to grant writing services. The improvements have increased effeciency, helping the team do their work with ease and has improved grant submissions which supports more dollars raised for the nonprofits!
