Meet Janelle Koch of Blink Lash Boutique in Mission Valley and Solana Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Janelle Koch.

Janelle Koch was trained in eyelash extensions in 2006 and immediately fell in love with the service. She quickly realized the demand and lack of qualified eyelash extension stylists so she refocused her esthetician career to specialize in lashes. Blink Lash Boutique started in 2008 in a tiny one-room studio in Mission Valley. It didn’t take long before she was outgrowing her space and brought on friend and fellow esthetician Jen Pearson to help. Together, they brought on and trained new employees as the demand continued to grow.

In 2010, they decided to open their North County location in Solana Beach to bring more convenience to their clients who lived in North County. After years of operating the two San Diego locations, they have decided to finally take the leap to open their 3rd location in Spokane, WA in December 2018. Both Jen and Janelle also still continue to see clients as well as train staff and manage the business.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I don’t think any business owner would say it’s a smooth road. We were both estheticians and lash stylists, but had to learn how to operate and grow a business with staff, which neither of us had done before. New challenges constantly pop up, but it keeps us motivated to continue to learn and grow personally and professionally.

Blink Lash Boutique – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We specialize in eyelash extensions and within the last couple of years have added lash lifts into our services as well. We also do facial waxing.

We are proud of the fact that we turned our love of our clients and the service into a thriving business. We have amazing employees who are the glue that keeps things running and we are so proud of each of them and watching them grow as well.

We have three locations now, but we don’t skimp on quality or cut corners. Since the owners both still perform the service, we are dedicated to keeping up with the latest training and using the best products available.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I think success is running a company that we can be proud and confident that upholds our values of customer service. Being a place that provides a positive experience for both the clients and our staff.
We didn’t necessarily set out to start a company, it just happened as we grew along the way with our clients and expanding the team. So, just the fact that we ended up where we are feels like success. Our passion still is to bring our service to the clients in a way that provides a quality eyelash extension application with a personal touch, at a good value to our clients.
