Janelle, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My community knows me as Ojos, I am a 23 years old Chicana-Cannabis Artist. I started my brand Ojos De Mota when I was 21 years old. Ojos De Mota comes from my roots. My mom would always yell things like “Otra ves con los Ojos de mota!”, “Again with your weed eyes!”. It was a constant struggle to have to explain the benefits of cannabis and it’s sacred healing properties to her but after years of hard work, she realized the benefits not only for myself and herself but as a community as well and has seen my brand grow.
The name Ojos De Mota comes from your Third Eye portal opening up when you’re elevated. I specialize in creating handmade Smoking Essentials. I create unique Roach Wands, Wax Wands, and Cannabis Jewelry. My brand started with Roach Wands. They allow you to look classy while you smoke a joint & help with the smell so your hands don’t smell like cannabis. I decorate each Wand with healing crystals and charms to fit your personality and make you feel like a boss when your smoking. I charge each Roach Wand with healing crystals and Bless them with Sage for the person receiving it.
My art is very unique and I never duplicate any pieces. I am a very spiritual person and love to spread the awareness of cannabis. My pieces allow you to be prideful while you smoke our ancestor’s natural remedy.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would like to share that it has been a smooth road. But every beautiful thing goes through obstacles and challenges. I think my biggest challenge is myself, I constantly overthink but I’ve learned to trust my self, trust my art at all cause. I’ve turned my challenges into learning experiences. Always looking at them positively.

I specialize in classy essential cannabis accessories. They are all hand made with love, and each are custom made for each customer. I’m mostly known for my Mota Wands. I’m the original creator of the elegant Roach Wand I get asked on a daily for them and can take up three to four weeks to complete. I’m mostly proud of my customers. They bring out so many new ideas to me and just the way I decided to take on every project amazes me. I’m proud of my self. What sets me apart is my passion for cannabis art. I can go hours creating and be so happy and excited to show my art. I dropped out of college to do this. So passion is also a quality that sets me apart from others.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
It’s very important to stay humble. I feel that as a small brand, it’s hard to just keep going because no one else is doing what I do. So that’s very important. As well as giving back to our community because they are ones that inspire me the most!
