Meet Jarod Pace of Amnesia X Beats in Southern San Diego

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jarod Pace.

Jarod, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started making beats around the age of 15 in the 1990’s. My friends and I always listened to rap and everyone loved the rappers, but I took to the music. It intrigued me. So freshman year of high school, I took a media class that had a keyboard. I would use a cassette tape player to overdub keyboard parts in order to layer it. As time went on, I acquired my own keyboard and started recording local singers and rappers and putting out CDs in the early 2000’s. Since then, I always kept it as a hobby, recording neighbors and friends and putting their material online.

In 2018 I suffered a traumatic work injury to my right hand and was stranded in a hotel in Japan getting treatments and therapy. Out of boredom and necessity, I started to immerse myself back into my lifelong hobby of beat making. Since then, I’ve amassed a reasonable size online following, I work with the majority of prominent San Diego rap artists, have collaborated with some of the industry’s top producers, have music place with massive YouTube channels, and make money working on multiple musical projects abroad.

Has it been a smooth road?
Initially, when I started in the 90’s, recording and beat-making gear was incredibly expensive and very difficult to learn. Rarely did I meet anyone who made hip hop beats, let alone had any equipment. There was no YouTube to quickly learn how to use gear or get better at the craft. Lastly, networking was also very limited, so I was stuck with whatever local talent was available to collaborate with. Nowadays, everything is in reverse, music-making tools are so accessible and easy to use, and the internet has connected everyone. Unfortunately, this creates a new dilemma- Over saturation.

Can you give our readers some background on your music?
My moniker is Amnesia X Beats (Amnesia Beats, the “X” is for searchability online). I specialize in Hip-Hop, Trap, R&B and Pop music creation. From songwriting to beat-making and audio engineering. I also dabble in sound design. I have a small production studio in my home where I compose, write, mix and master projects. What sets me apart is versatility and musical knowledge. I play a multitude of instruments in a multitude of genres. I am well versed in Pop Theory, music theory, song structure, performance and the music industry.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What I like best about San Diego is its diversity, food, natural beauty and cleanliness (compared to most cities). What I like least about San Diego is the homelessness problem, expensive rent, and traffic.
