Meet Jarren Barboza

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jarren Barboza.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Jarren. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started riding BMX around ten years old, I rode pretty much every day for years. It was an outlet not only to be creative but meet all of these people that shared the same passion. Fast forward ten years later I’m doing it professionally with the support of some legendary brands in the game. The best part is I still get that same feeling whenever I get on my bike.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
A while ago somebody told me “anything easy to get, probably isn’t worth having”. I didn’t understand it much at the time, but I believe that whole heartedly. I’ve had plenty of ups and downs. Whether those be physical injuries, or just being in tough spots mentally. Life, in general, is a mental game, the right outlook and attitude paired with drive can take you so far.

Please tell us about your work.
I’m a Professional BMX Rider. For anybody not familiar with the term, I ride my bike on cool architecture and other obstacles you’d find in your city. 🙂 As a BMX Rider, I create content revolving around what it’s like being me. I try to show both sides of my life, on and off the bike. I also do Commercial and TV work, this past year I joined the Screen Actors Guild which is a union for actors and performers.

I’d say what sets me apart from other riders is my approach to being a pro BMX rider. It’s been a passion of mine for about a decade now, but it’s also a tool for me to use to pursue other paths. I’ve been able to work with brands like Sneakersnstuff & Ethika. Celebs like Tyler the Creator & Zach Galifianakis and make countless connections and relationships I’d never make otherwise.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
To me, being successful is waking up every day excited for your routine or what you have on your agenda. As long as you love what you’re doing, it’s more of a rewarding feeling rather than work.
