Meet Jasmine Sessions of International Treescapes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Sessions.

Jasmine, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
As someone born with a creative eye, I am most inspired by nature as it provides me with an endless palette of colors, textures, shapes and sizes. My passion for horticulture has led me to become a landscape designer, floral artisan, and herbal educator.

I intuitively meld the rich tones and timbres found in nature with my passion and imagination in each of my designs. After moving to San Diego I was exposed to a new and vibrant palette; this one comprised of diverse people, diverse cultures, and an elevated sense of sophistication.

My designs morphed in syncopation with my exploration of these new experiences. Using botanicals as my canvas, my art runs the gamut from intricate floral arrangements to immense vertical gardens in geometric shapes, varying textures and bursts of color.

As my study of horticulture evolved, so too did my exposure to, and appreciation of, Eastern art and medicine. My introduction to medicinal herbs, aromatherapy, terpenes and the nutritional benefits associated with these plants, was both enlightening and gratifying. I now host educational events and webinars teaching others about urban horticulturalism.

My artificial landscape designs are now featured at International Treescapes where I lead one of the design teams that integrate with the experienced artisans who create Treescapes’ custom fabricated trees, plants and vertical gardens. I work with interior plantscaping professionals and outdoor landscaping experts helping them bring their visions to life. Our designs are special in that our products do not require water, pesticides or herbicides.

We can create products that span the great divide between reality and fantasy. Because our line of remarkable products are built for commercial applications, they are lightweight, long lasting, and made of inherently fire retardant materials. I truly believe and live by the adage that one’s only limitation is their imagination!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not, but the bumps and bruises that we all endure on the road of life are often necessary to help keep us on the straight and narrow. I moved to San Diego 10 years ago with a little less than a thousand dollars to my name but with a million dollars’ worth of enthusiasm. I immediately landed an entry-level position with Sea World which helped pay the rent but not much else.

A friend suggested that I apply to Mary Birch Hospital as a Labor and Delivery Tech as she thought my personality and abilities were a perfect fit. I spent nearly 7 years in that rewarding position. In an interesting twist of fate, I was injured mountain climbing and was not allowed to be on my feet performing my normal job for over 7 months. As a form of self-therapy I started to create green walls and other forms of horticultural art, and as they say, the rest is history!

Please tell us about International Treescapes.
What I am most proud of in my affiliation with Treescapes is the fact that if you have traveled the globe over the past 25 years, you have undoubtedly seen one of our preserved, custom-fabricated or reproduction trees, plants, green walls, topiaries, and/or botanicals.

With over 25,000 installations dotting the planet, our designs are showcased at the world’s most important hotels, casinos, airports, restaurants, shopping centers, theme parks, cruise ships, office buildings, and hospitals. We have even recently been asked to create a line of artificial products for the “budding” cannabis industry.

TreeScapes encourages us to let our minds wander and dream beyond the confines of reality and “botanically correct” shapes and styles. Our fabricated creations are often rooted in fantasy and come to life on stages behind performers, as treehouses in libraries, and as pieces of modern art in hotels, casinos, restaurants and shopping centers.

Our products are even capable of housing a wide array of integrated systems, and components including lighting, audio, video, computers, plumbing, water misters, beer taps, storage components and much more. These are more than mere architectural adornments, they are iconic structures that will be remembered for years to come.
