Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Tharp.
American Custom Lifts was founded in 1998 by Brad Davies in La Jolla, Brad’s initial focus was to double customers parking allowing them to store vehicles on top of each other. As the company grew he saw that clients needed to store vehicles underground and in stacks three and four high. Brad’s focus was always customer service and providing excellent American made products. Brad has started to slowly retire and still stays on board as Chairman of the Board and is dedicated to sourcing new and exciting products.
The current President Jason took over the business in 2015. He arrived from over 20 years of hotel management and development. Many of his properties were located in San Diego. He set up new company locations including their first Southern California warehouse. The company made its first acquisition of Freightlifts.com to focus on the Freight Lift side of the business that ACL launched 10 years prior. Keeping the customer at the center of everything, Jason continues to challenge the team to take care of customers.
American Custom Lifts now occupies the leadership in development of both hydraulic and mechanical lifting systems. About every quarter American Custom Lifts releases a new product after rigorous testing. It handles most of the Subterranean Lifts in San Diego, Orange and Los Angeles counties. The company has not forgotten its roots as it still offers 4-post lifts starting around $3,000. This makes it affordable for anyone to “Double their parking”.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The company has grown at a very fast pace since 1998 by providing great customer service the products people want, American Custom Lifts opened up a retail store in Escondido in 2011. The store was a success from the local community and for the Cruisin’ Grand evenings. The store took the company away from its core business helping people double, triple and quadruple their parking. The strategic decision was made to close the store and to spend time focusing its core businesses.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the American Custom Lifts story. Tell us more about the business.
American Custom Lifts is dedicated to solving problems related to the parking, storage and transportation of vehicles, material, and other objects. We design and market commercial and residential parking lifts, automotive lifts, mechanical freight lifts, hydraulic lifts and material handling equipment such as scissor tables, dock lifts, truck levelers, and vertical reciprocating conveyors. We also offer technical assistance and engineering designs for specialty applications and can produce custom material handling equipment for virtually any industry.
The staff and experience of American Custom Lifts are a testament to a company that is continuing its growth and development of new products.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
We are a very fortunate company as land has become more and more expensive. With parking being scarce in many areas, people have to think about vertical or subterranean options to accommodate their vehicles.
The company ships lifts throughout North America and worldwide to many countries.
