Meet Jatana Williams of Beyond the Sky Solutions

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jatana Williams.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I worked for a national senior care organization. I worked my way up into what I thought was my “dream job” until I quickly found out, my dream job was not to be disconnected from the people we served in the community. I was sitting in a meeting, surrounded by all the “Cs” as they went over reports and charts discussing how the organization has done well but could do better. I was exhausted from pushing my team and myself past the point of workaholics.

My head spun and heart raced when I was asked to do something that wasn’t in my heart to do. Not that it was illegal. It was an issue beyond what caring for people really meant to me. In was in that moment, I decided to put my body in motion from where my mind had been for months “Leave” save yourself before there is no you left. I listened, got up, walked into my office, typed up my resignation and started packing.

Almost five years! August is my marker. It marks the time I decided to not be afraid to try a different way. The way of spending time with people allowing them to process what is happening to their elderly parent or spouse through the power of education and a listening ear. The way of allowing individuals to have flexible hours, be there for families and become part of the process of who Beyond the Sky is. I was once told by a CEO whom I respected very much, that people don’t care about love. I disagreed then and I disagree now. People do care about their elderly loved one receiving compassionate and loving care.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It was a rough road. Going from employee to business owner is a big deal. When I was in a large organization, there was a department for that? Department for this and a department for those things! When starting my own business, I was every department! I made mistakes in bringing on certain people to be part of the team.

Believing they were as sold out as I was, not! Because doing everything can wear a person out at times, mistakes can be made when people show interest in wanting to help out. Not everyone is meant for my business, and my business isn’t meant for everyone to work in.

I then had to really get a grip on branding. Who am I and who did I want this company to be? I went through several changes in marketing materials and verbiage, spent money on packages from consultants that did nothing but take my money. The best learning lesson for me is doing, making mistakes and making adjustments along the way. I am still learning, but that’s the good part.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Beyond the Sky Solutions – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Our Mission is to support the partnership between senior care providers, families and residents to assist in quality care delivery through the educational and solution-based programs we offer.

We provide three service lines:
1. Continuing education for licensed senior care providers and family caregivers
2. Find assisted living, independent living, residential care homes for the elderly and home care for families in need of guidance
3. Consulting services for those wanting to start a 4-15 bed residential care home for the elderly

We are best known for our education services. I make it my mission to scout out the best talent in the industry to provide the education. We have instructors that are nurses, social works, administrators and physicians. It is not possible to bring people the knowledge of all they have to learn from one mind.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We continue with our Annual Female Care Providers Conference (Strengthen the Hearts, Minds & Bodies). We are working our 5th-anniversary event this September 15th.

We are planning on expanding our services into Orange County and Riverside. We already have education planned for the spring and summer in the Desert of Palm Springs. The goal will always be to educate the families on what is the best options and resources for their loved ones. As well as helping the senior care providers be connected to families in need of their care.
