Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeanne Rawdin.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Jeanne. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I am a professional storyteller and writer. I’ve spent more than 20 years in local television – as a writer, newscast producer, magazine show producer, and reporter for San Diego affiliates NBC, ABC, and CBS, as well as Channel 4 San Diego and Cox Media. I’ve covered the gamut of subject matter – from firefighter training to the dangers of cell phones, from veterans’ post-traumatic stress syndrome to anorexia, from silent film stars to disabled athletes. I’ve won 16 Emmys and numerous other awards throughout my career in television.
My non-profit work has included serving as communications director for the Foundation for Women and executive director of the Tariq Khamisa Foundation. I’ve also been a volunteer art and music teacher to elementary school students. Throughout the years, I have championed causes including environmental conservation, education, children and women’s issues, as well as the plight of the homeless. My favorite storylines involve the reinvention of human beings under challenging circumstances.
I am the mother of three wonderful children and presently work as a freelance writer and video producer. I am an avid reader and I enjoy baking and cooking.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The great recession hit the television industry hard, and I ended up getting laid off from my job at Channel 4/Cox Media along with many others. This was a position that evolved over time and I loved the fact I was a producer, on-air reporter, writer, supervisor of on-air talent, and an environmental steward of the company. This job didn’t exist anywhere else! It was a struggle to find the right path to reinvent myself after that. After stints as an insurance agent, financial advisor, online business owner, and many other ventures, I realized that working for myself as a freelance writer was the best fit.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about JR Media – what should we know?
JR Media offers a customized approach to a company’s or entrepreneur’s needs. Maybe a company needs a “signature” video for its website, or an entrepreneur needs some coaching about being in front of the camera or speaking to a large audience including image consulting, voice control, and presentational skills. Maybe someone’s website needs new content or revamping. Or maybe a store-owner needs a press release written, or a published article in their community newspaper. I help clients do all these things
What sets me apart from others is that I am passionate about finding my client’s voice and branding and capitalizing on their potential. I get great satisfaction from helping others succeed. I am 100% committed to achieving those goals of success for all my clients.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I think a love of people is essential to success. Throughout my career, I’ve had the opportunity to meet so many different types of people with so many different outlooks on life, and I’ve always considered it a constant education. To see others succeed and have satisfaction reaching a goal or overcoming an obstacle is my reward professionally. I love to meet new people and tell their stories in whatever medium they want. That’s what fuels me. I know how to create relationships of trust when interviewing others, and really bring out the emotions and details of their stories. I’m also very persistent, organized, and detail-oriented. Being a former book editor, I have great skills at copywriting, proofreading, grammar, spelling, and syntax.
