Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeff Bristol.
Hi Jeff, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Jeff Bristol, I own and manage Fitness Quest 10 in Scripps Ranch, San Diego. I was an athlete growing up and I wrestled in high school and college. My lifestyle in high school and college led me to have some serious battles with addiction, so I spent most of my 20s in and out of jail and rehab despite having a supportive family, education, and a strong community. I went through a long and hard battle. I moved to Scripps Ranch from Temecula in 2010 because I was dating a girl who later became my wife. I answered a Craigslist ad for a job at the front desk of Fitness Quest 10 Todd Durkin the owner and founder had an immediate impact on me as well as the community at the gym. The positive environment and supportive community inspired me to get my personal training certification and then I became a trainer. Over the last 10 years, I grew as a trainer, became General Manager, and bought the gym from Todd over the last two years. I’m very proud to be part of a community that changes people’s lives. Just like this community changed my life. Today we have a team of 25 people, and our mission is to offer unwavering positive attitudes that use health and fitness to transform the body, mind, and spirits of our clients at Fitness Quest 10.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I joined the team at Fitness Quest 10 in 2011 and over the last 11 years my life has completely transformed. There have been many times where it was not easy, but the work is very rewarding as a trainer. There are different aspects of the job that are physically and mentally challenging. They include early mornings, late nights, long days, and weeks at the gym. I can remember several years working seven days a week from 5:30 am to 8 pm and just really grinding. The hard work has paid off and all of the sacrifices have been worth it. My wife and I are both very career oriented and have supported each other’s dreams and goals but that also comes with challenges. Some of those challenges have led to sometimes feeling exhausted or can be difficult on a marriage but in the end, I think both of us have done a good job of supporting each other and working hard towards our goals. For example, my wife has been working on her Neuro-Psychology doctorate and just graduated this past year but decided to take a residency at the UC Davis Hospital in Sacramento and for one year, she would fly up to Sacramento for the week and come back on the weekends. That was a major sacrifice but is an example of how we have supported each other through challenging times.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Fitness Quest 10?
Fitness Quest 10 is San Diego’s Premier Health and Human Performance Center. We specialize in personal training, athlete performance, group training, pilates, yoga, massage, physical therapy, chiropractic, naturopathic medicine, and other specialty programs. We’ve been in Scripps Ranch for 22 years, and about half of our staff of 30 people have been with us for over 10 years! We have an incredible culture and community. We are a one-stop shop for health and human performance. I know there’s no other community like Fitness Quest 10. Come and see it for yourself!
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I know that especially over the pandemic, there was a big focus on online and virtual training in the health and fitness industry. However, I believe in the future there is going to be a big emphasis back on human connection, personal training, relationships, and community. I believe the health and wellness space is really expanding and people are becoming more and more aware of not only their physical health but also their mental health and the different types of health and wellness practices that they can do to improve their mind, body, and soul. I know that for us at Fitness Quest 10, we are going to double down on personal connection and community. I feel the biggest impact on my mental health has been exercise and community, that is going to be our focus at Fitness Quest 10 as we head into the next decade.
