Today we’d like to introduce you to Jen Parambath.
Jen, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
This part of my story begins during my junior year of high school. At the time, my mom was working as a nurse and was caring for an elderly man, who suffered from a slew of health conditions, which significantly impacted his ability to verbally speak. Earlier that week, he received a small computer device to communicate. I witnessed something that would impact my life path for many years. This fragile elderly man pushed a few buttons on his computer device and the computer spoke: “eat soup”. I quickly felt a rush of gratitude; I realized I had taken the ability to communicate my feelings, wants, and needs, for granted. The ability to tell someone “I love you” or “I’m hungry, let’s eat” was something I never really thought some people can’t do. At that moment, I realized the power and impact of communication. I wanted to be a conduit for others, supporting them to find their voice and increase their communication skills. So with that, I went to school and became a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP). Several years after working as a SLP and through my healing, a different part of my journey began to unfold where I realized the natural gifts I have to facilitate connection and communication were skills I could use to help women connect with themselves and to support their healing.
The most important conversation we can have is the one we have with ourselves. Are you saying things to yourself that you would never dare say to anyone else? The comments we are saying to ourselves and our thoughts must be those of love, acceptance, and joy. So with these gifts and skills, I began coaching WOC to find their voice and not be afraid to speak up.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
On my healing path, I have experienced both smooth and bumpy roads at different times. I’m still learning to navigate and will continue to do so! Once I was able to recognize that any and all trials I had were simply lessons, I opened myself up to new possibilities and understanding of situations. I was no longer bogged down by the struggles and instead started to use them as ways to pivot my plan and keep moving forward. Whether something was going as planned or not, a win or a lesson, I reminded myself to keep pushing and take action, even if it meant I had to crawl towards a goal. I struggled the most with being vulnerable with others, putting down my protective wall, and allowing people into my life.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I am a Communication Coach for WOC who are ready to find their voice, speak their truth, and be heard. I work with women who “have it all together” on the outside and yet still struggle with understanding why others don’t listen to their ideas or why their opinions aren’t taken into consideration. When women have gone years without the feeling of being heard, I step in and provide support to uncover how past experiences may be impacting their current ability to communicate in their daily lives.
My goal is for women to recognize how strong and resilient they are, that what she says matters, and not to be afraid to speak up for what she wants in life. This might look like speaking up for yourself in an argument with your spouse, or requesting a raise at work because you got asked to complete “one more” extra assignment (again), or voicing you are against the grain opinion to your family which may be perceived as “crazy” or “out there”. Having a voice that speaks YOUR truth is what I support WOC to find. Your voice and your truth are already inside you; I provide you with tools to unearth these powerful skills and start using them.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
To me, there is no “good” or “bad” luck. It is what it is. I believe there’s always a lesson to be learned, whether something works out in my favor or not. Being flexible and learning to pivot based on experiences has been a really important lesson for me. I’ve had experiences that others may perceive as “bad luck” and I have been able to flip the script and use it towards a big lesson and a bigger plan for me.
