Jennelle, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My husband Stefan and I created and built out Belli Belli Salon in 2004 from our imagination and passion to offer high-end technical services in a beautiful environment using quality products. We created oversized stations and waiting areas for client comfort, have consistent training programs for our assistants and front desk to deliver amazing customer service every time and work with the top, most talented stylists in San Diego.
Using our mantras, “Its About The Client” and “We Want To Do Your Hair”, Belli Belli strives to be the best in what we do. Beautiful hair with great service in a fun, gorgeous environment. We’re often called the salon of windows, casual high end and the biggest little salon in San Diego.
Our staff is supported at every step which helps the salon run smoothly so the client can easily get beautiful hair and great service.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Being a business owner presents many obstacles and challenges from new laws and taxes, staying on trend and keeping clients and your team happy. These challenges make you a better business and create an opportunity to develop systems to handle the same situations in the future.
We follow all the rules and regulations when it comes to the running a business, this isn’t a hobby and we want to treat our employees right and be compliant. Keeping on trend is very important to us. From fashion-forward clients and stylists to social media and education our stylists are on top of the trends. We aim to communicate and help every client every time from scheduling appointments, staying in their price point to making sure they are happy with their services.
We celebrate and measure growth with each team member so they aren’t guessing at their careers or wondering how they’re doing. We are very busy and on top of our business all year, so we schedule fun too. Constantly changing and adapting to the new laws, beauty trends and keeping your staff happy keeps us relevant and able to focus on our clients.
Belli Belli Salon – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
At Belli Belli Salon we focus on beautiful hair. We specialize in color, cutting and extensions. I’d say most of our clients are balayage because it’s the latest and greatest in blonde coloring. That said we have male clients who want more than a quick cut, ladies and gentlemen of all ages, kids too.
Outside of our technical services we are known for our style of customer service and large, comfortable, clean salon.
We are most proud of our professionalism in an industry that can be too casual. We elevate our staff to be focused on the client, inspire them to be their best self and build their business to success.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Professionally I measure my success by the success of the people on my team. We measure that with our sales and retention numbers. People are happy when they’re growing professionally and supported along the way. I delegate, let go and follow up. My team knows the can get a hold of me anytime for anything.
When there is a problem or something isn’t handled properly, we discuss how to handle it better next time. Success is when that happens, which is 99.9% of the time. Our team often takes initiative to make things work, if they can do it better next time we pow wow on it.
Personally, I feel most successful when I have a work/life balance. I no longer wish I was at home when I’m at work or tell myself I should be working when I’m at home. Being in the moment, paying attention to my margins and always building our brand keeps our salon busy and successful.
