Meet Jennifer Espinoza

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Espinoza.

Hi Jennifer, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started grooming in 2019 at 19 years old. I eventually went on to own a mobile grooming business in 2021 at 21 years old. After a year of successfully operating my business when it was hitting its prime, I got into a car accident on my way to a client’s house which resulted in my grooming van being a totaled loss. After much consideration, I made the difficult decision to close down my business after only a year. It was tough, but a then went back to being an employee for a private salon for about 8 months. I missed having my own business and being able to create a bond with the clients and their dogs. In September of 2022, I came across a vacant grooming salon up for lease. I decided to take the leap, and the rest is history! I was able to open my own grooming salon at 23 years old. 🙂

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I opened in December, which is a great month for groomers. The holidays are always great. December was a good month for me but then came January… business slowed down a lot. Some days I wouldn’t have any clients booked at all. I was patient, and luckily in March, I started to pick back up. I am now building a fantastic set of clientele that I love!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Grooming is such a great creative outlet. I love trying out new techniques/skills on all sorts of different dogs. I even get the occasional hair-dying dogs which I LOVE to do! I would like to think that I’m mostly known for the environment I provide for the dogs. I try to have a relaxing salon setting for every dog. I put my full attention on any dog that is on my table. I think my clients can tell that my work is not rushed, and they can see how happy their dogs are to be there.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I like to tell anyone that comes into my salon that I renovated and designed the salon in their point of view. I designed it as if I was bringing my dog to the groomers. That is why I went with the cage-free, open-concept, and homey salon feel. If I was to bring my dog to the groomers, that’s exactly how I would want it to be.
