Meet Jennifer Lopez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Lopez.

Hi Jennifer, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I started working as a retail makeup artist in 2001 for a leading cosmetic line in the industry and quickly moved my way up through several management positions until I was a manager of my own location. I worked there for 20 years and throughout my time there, I became a mom of four children. I worked weeks with over 40 hours while juggling my children at home – it’s how I learned to multitask. While managing my own location, I was also building my own artistry business. In 2019, I left the brand that I had managed for over two decades and opened my own makeup traveling business. While my own line flourished, I noticed I had additional time on my hands to spare, especially while my children were at school most of the time. I later learned about Everytable and absolutely fell in love with the brand, mission statement, what they stood for, and overall culture. In August 2022, I became the store manager for the Everytable Vista location. I find myself to be very happy here. I love the balance of being able to have my own business and service my clients on the weekend while getting to run an Everytable storefront and meet amazing people.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road, but I am extremely thankful for every hardship I’ve faced along the way – It’s made me stronger, smarter, and even more driven to succeed. My most difficult challenge along the way was in 2017 when my six-year-old son was diagnosed with cancer unexpectedly. Today, he is fully recovered but many life lessons came out of the situation. He remained strong, resilient, positive and taught me how to maintain a positive outlook on life as well as to let go of the little things. Whenever he was scared or nervous about needles or surgeries, he would hold my hand and simply say “I need to take my deep breaths with momma.” He’d become so brave. I eventually got a tattoo saying, “deep breaths.” Whenever I feel challenged or stressed, I look at my tattoo and think if he can handle beating cancer, I can handle anything – it’s a great reminder.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My vision for the future is to remain successful in my makeup artistry business. I am currently booking up for 2023 with my main focus being on weddings during the weekends. That way throughout the weekday, I can dedicate my time to Everytable by running the store as a manager. I am extremely grateful I have the opportunity to grow professionally at two separate businesses simultaneously and to have a flexible schedule that allows me time with my children. I can send them off to school in the morning, on time for their after-school activities, or even simply have pizza with them on a random weeknight. Eventually, I would love to become a senior store manager at Everytable and manage multiple locations at one time. For now, I will keep learning and growing all things relating to business and management by always pushing myself out of my comfort zone and always setting higher goals once my current ones are met. I hope to show my children that anything is possible as long as you manage your time well. It’s all about balance.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out.
My advice to anyone just starting off – start anywhere no matter if it’s big or small! Always take initiative in everything you do. Keep an open mind and remain open to feedback because that’s how you grow. Push yourself out of your comfort zones. And most importantly, stay humble.
