Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer von Stauffenberg.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I knew at a very young age that I wanted to amplify the voices of the most positively powerful people and brands. When I was six or seven, I was at a Cyndi Lauper concert and I was inspired by the way she captivated the audience. At the time, I probably wanted to be more like her, but later realized I didn’t love having the spotlight on me, so I built a career around shining the spotlight on others. I launched Olive Public Relations over 16 years ago after about eight years in the industry and today, we are known for our work with with neighborhoods, luxury multi-family communities, non-profits, hospitality, and more. I’m proud that my team consistently secures great results for the clients we serve. We are all about building relationships.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Launching a business into the world and sustaining it for over 16 years, partly through a global pandemic, raising children, and dealing with the overall economy shifts and changes makes for a bumpy road. Some of them bumpier than others, but ultimately, I think the key to success is a lot like paddle boarding… you gotta stay soft at the knees and go with those bumps and changes. I lovingly share that my business was built on me having a lot of fun and being all over the place. Once I decided to settle down and have children (which is literally my favorite part of my life), I really changed and I didn’t want to be all over the place, so I had to reinvent how I build business. The economy shifts and changes also threw in some pretty big challenges, but I really believe there are always thrivers and as an agency, our job is to find them or make them. I subscribe to the belief that part of my job is to help people thrive and so when we do our job, we have the pleasure of long sustained relationships. The hardest of all the bumps has surely been that big event we all are tired of talking about. The truth is that the world changed and so we have had to adjust. Stay soft in the knees and go with the flow.
Regardless of the challenges, we always find our way and that has been quite the adventure and something I’m proud of.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Olive Public Relations?
Olive Public Relations is a San Diego based marketing and public relations firm that amplifies the most positively powerful people and brands. We believe the best brands deserve maximum exposure and opportunity. Anytime a great business closes its doors or an excellent product loses to a mediocre competitor, or a visionary walks away from their dream, we ALL lose.
This is the stuff that keeps us up at night and what drives us every day. Since our founding, Olive Public Relations has partnered with leaders across the country to illuminate their greatness. Through proven and unconventional public relations strategies, we’ve helped founders, influencers, and executives achieve extraordinary results and make a lasting impact. For 16 years, we’ve been fearlessly dedicated to brands the world needs to know.
We are known for our work with neighborhoods. We have been working with Little Italy Association for over 12 years. We also work with East Village, Downtown Chula Vista, Arts District Liberty Station, Redwood City Improvement Association, and Downtown Hayward to name a few. We also do work with several notable hospitality brands including Hilton Bayside Campus, The Busalacchi’s Restaurant Group, The Beau Hotel and Witherby, Tacos El Franc, Jitters Coffee Pub, and most recently Margaritaville Hotel San Diego. We also work with some of San Diego’s most impactful non-profit organizations including McAlister Institute, Cura Smiles, Lions Tigers & Bears, and more. Olive is also known for experiential events and arts and culture and we represent such known brands as Oceanside Museum of Art, La Jolla Art & Wine Festival, La Jolla Concours d’Elegance, and more.
How do you think about happiness?
I love this question. What makes me happy? My favorite quote has always been: “Happiness is a choice.” I’m not sure I believe things make us happy. I believe we choose happiness and then happy things follow. But, it’s easy for me to say that my family makes me happy – my husband and two boys. Seeing orcas in the wild, sunsets, flowers in full bloom, flowering trees, the forest, vacation, sailing or boating of any kind, Hawaiian shaved ice in Hawaii, you get my point. Lately, I have also found a lot of fulfillment in working with my team at Olive. These powerhouses get amazing results and they are fun to work with. Also, I’m deeply inspired by our clients. I feel very on purpose getting to support their work. It makes me very happy when I know our efforts are making a difference.
