Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremy Ricci.
Jeremy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started DJing when I was 13 years old. I purchased my first turntable and I held it up with bricks. I worked under the table at a local pizza place and the money I earned I used to purchase records. I always loved scratching and I eventually ended up purchasing a mixer and another turntable. I went on to dj house parties, sweet 16’s and then joined the U.S.Navy two weeks after high school. When I left the U.S. Navy, I started in sales, ended up becoming a finance manager two years later and worked in that industry for about seven years. It was great financially, but I didn’t love it. I resigned from my position as a finance manager and went back to school and used my GI Bill.
About the same time, I resigned and began my college classes I started my dj company as well. After completing my college classes and receiving my nursing license, I came to a crossroad. I ended up following my gut and took a leap of faith and went all in on my dj company. Ten years after starting it, I can honestly say it was one of my best decisions I’ve made!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Definitely, there are struggles along the way, but it has challenged me to not give up and keep moving forward! It took me years to get the ball rolling on business and I had times I questioned if it was the right thing to do. Luckily, I was really blessed to come across some amazing clients, coordinators, photographers, and people at the venue’s I was DJing at.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about DJ Pros – what should we know?
I own a dj company and we specialize in weddings, corporate events, and school dances. The thing I’m most proud of my company is the reputation we have earned. Being on time, professional and doing whatever we can to make our client’s special day memorable and fun!
If you ask my mom what sets my company apart from the rest, she’d say I’m the best dj in the whole wide world! Haha. Seriously, I just love what I do. I enjoy events, people are almost always happy and kind… and we take pride in a clean look, great sound systems, great lighting, and cool dj gear!
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I’d have to say a huge part of my success is due in part to having such nice people working alongside me and my company. Amazing coordinators, photographers, florist, cake designers, rental companies… pretty much everyone involved with events! They have all played a role in me growing and I can’t say thank you enough for every single one of them!
A few people that helped me a lot is Samantha Scarpine, who’s the director at Callaway Winery. She was a wedding coordinator and was one of the first to add me to her preferred vendor’s list and also introduced me to the networking group “Temecula Valley Wedding Professionals.” She helped my business grow a lot and I’m sincerely grateful to her!
Another person who stands out a lot to me is Elizabeth Tyler at Ponte Winery. She is an amazing person, so kind, huge heart and I’m truly blessed to have met her. I feel she has had such an impact on me as a dj and person. She was always kind, always took time to talk and had a big role in my company growing, I’m sincerely grateful to her as well!
One more person is Eddie Limon, who owns A/V company and is an inspiration to a lot of people on work ethic, professionalism and kindness as well. I really look up to him and I always tell him that I want to grow my company to where he was at six years ago… and I’d be fine with that! I have learned so much from him and still do all the time.
And I can’t forget my buddies Devaughn Daniels and Drew Pierce who’s are also fellow DJ’s along with Eddie… we talk a lot, share ideas, they’re close friends and help me grow personally and business-wise as well!
And last but certainly not least, my family. They’re awesome. All of my kids along with my wife give me the drive to continue moving forward. My parents, grandparents, cousins… they all have been so kind and supportive all throughout the years!
