Meet Jesse Simmons and Mike Moloney of Peak Rider Services

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jesse Simmons and Mike Moloney.

Mike started Peak Rider approximately 10 years ago in the UK offering advanced level motorcycle training on-the-road. Four years ago Mike moved to the US and planned to offer the same training here. In 2015 Mike and Jesse were introduced and discussed extending this training to a military audience. From 2015-2017, Mike and Jesse conducted various research and certifying trips to the UK to establish best practices and build a contact list to deliver UK based training from their primary organizations here in the states.

Mike and Jesse are both certified road safety instructors from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA). Mike continued his training to become an examiner, meaning he can now train instructors. September 2017 Peak Rider Services LLC was formed offering motorcycle safety workshops, one-on-one training on-the-road and a motorcyclist’s specific first aid course named First Bike on Scene.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There have been complications in correlating road safety training from the UK stemming from the most basic, occupying the opposite side of the road, to more complicated factors including a different social approach to road safety and its delivery pathways.

To conduct motorcycle safety training on-the-road is a massive paradigm shift from the current offerings here in the states. Mainstream training is conducted in parking lots with cones or on a race track. Finding an insurance provider for this venture was extremely difficult based on the risks of training in an environment where the mitigation of risk is not as straightforward.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We are not an entry level training school. We train motorcyclists that already have their licenses and prefer that they have some experience riding, but the later is not an absolute requirement. A fortunate side of our business model is it is highly mobile. Our training focuses on the rider mindset and informing riders how to apply skills they already know to make better use of the time and space they have.

We take mentorship very seriously and offer numerous opportunities for riders to practice their skills through our monthly ride-outs and quarterly social schedule. We believe we are the only school that conducts on-the-road training and offers a first aid course specifically for and by motorcyclists for the incidents they may encounter.

What were you like growing up?
I was raised in a family of law enforcement professionals in Texas. Mother, father, aunts, uncles and sister–all in the public service sector. Public safety was something I knew and understood at a young age. When I turned 14 I joined an organization called the Explorers.

It was for young boys and girls to participate with the local law enforcement agencies. When I graduated high school I entered the Marine Corps to gain experience and reach an age to be commissioned peace officer in Texas, but came to appreciate the military occupation and remained for a 20-year career.
