Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Hinton.
Hi Jessica, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
We are locally owned by a United States military veteran. Jessica opened Barefoot Vacation Rentals in Jan of 2018 after managing her own vacation rentals for a few years. She was inspired to start renting her first house after traveling to Mexico and staying in a vacation rental herself. After a few years of learning the ‘dos and the don’ts’ and purchasing a second home with the income she had made, she pondered the idea of starting a business. Jessica started by helping a few friends start theirs and realized, due to the lessons, skills, and experience Jessica has learned over the 16 years she served as an HVAC technician in the Air Force and her current line of work as a project manager, she had the skills and the desire to start her own business.
With an immense amount of research, time, and perseverance, Jessica opened Barefoot Vacation Rentals in January of 2018 and has never looked back. It was a dream of hers as a single mom at the time, to be able to take her daughters to and from school, which she continues to do till this day, in addition, to helping homeschool her stepson and love on her newest bundle of joy. Throughout the years, the business has grown, and she has built a team to help with the many properties the business is managing.
In Jessica’s free time, she sits on the VRON – Riverside (Vacation Rentals Owners and Neighbors) team to help aid with the ordinance changes in the county as well as recently selected to sit on the ‘Visit Temecula Valley’ board. Jessica’s life motto “is never give up, Life throws us curveballs and it is what we do during our adversity that really shows someone’s character.” Jessica is always looking for ways to improve the business and offer our homeowners, guests, and her employees the best experience possible.
Both Jessica and her team take great pride in serving guests from around the world and ensuring each person who arrives feels at home regardless of how far they have traveled. Their attention to detail and dedication in creating a one-of-a-kind experience for each guest is shown by the many ‘extras’ we provide in each of our homes.
As an active member of her church, Jessica and her family know that none of this would have been possible without God and give him the glory for everything they do. Barefoot Vacation Rentals partnered with an Orphanage in Ensenada, Mexico, that houses 120 foster children. Barefoot Vacation Rentals sponsors two children monthly, and we encourage our guests to join in the cause.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Building and growing a business is never easy! We’ve made mistakes and have learned and grown along the way. We continue to improve our processes and adjust to our ever-changing regulations. We could have given up many times along the way, but my team and I are all problem solvers and are always thinking of ways to be the best at what we do.
We’ve been impressed with Barefoot Vacation Rentals, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Jessica Hinton is Founder and owner of Barefoot Vacation Rentals, a local boutique vacation rental property management company in Temecula. She’s a short-term vacation rental expert and manages 40+ homes, offering a full turnkey service. She has been a member of multiple short-term rental advocacy boards to help bring common sense regulations into our industry. She recently spoke at the board of supervisors of Riverside County, CA and they adopted her recommendation for occupancy. Jessica was awarded the Destinationaire Award in 2020 (One of the top 5 Short term rental management companies in the world), Featured on Staycation, an international short-term rental docu-series aired on CBS, with over 3 million views. In 2020 she was featured as the 1st of 10 Short-Term Rental Stories by Rent Responsibly, (a national organization to help teach and support well-run short-term rentals). Hinton currently serves on the VTV board of directors.
Barefoot Vacation Rentals supports the community and our local businesses. Each guest arriving at one of our homes we manage is welcomed with a local jar of honey and great discounts and suggestions for local activities and services in town.
What does success mean to you?
Quality of life, A good work/life balance, financial stability, and time to spend with the ones you love. This is becoming more defined as I get older. It’s not all about the dollar, it’s about family, making memories, and not living life so tense. It’s short, enjoy it.
