Meet Jessica Shehab of Platform | Lagree Fitness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Shehab.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
When I started Platform (formerly Pilates Plus La Jolla) back in January 2009, I didn’t just open a fitness studio—I set out to create a home. A welcoming environment where like-minded fitness and health enthusiasts could not only get the most effective 40-minute workout of their day, but also feel part of a space they genuinely wanted to return to—again and again.

I was drawn to Lagree because it was, hands down, the most effective workout I had ever experienced in just 40 minutes. The high-energy music, the fast pace, and the low-impact nature of the workout made time fly by. You could feel stronger after just a few classes. It combined intensity with safety, and results with rhythm—and I knew I had found something special that people would fall in love with, just like I did.

Like many small business owners, I began with little more than a dream, relentless drive, and the deep belief that we could create something different. Not just a workout, but a community. Not just a class, but a culture.

The path wasn’t always easy. I’ve worn every hat—from instructor to front desk, from janitor to mentor. I’ve wiped mirrors and machines late into the night and greeted clients with a smile early the next morning. But every ounce of effort was worth it, because I believed in what we were building: a space where discipline meets encouragement, where accountability builds confidence, and where people show up—not just for a workout, but for themselves and each other.

That philosophy still defines us today. Platform isn’t just a name—it represents what I hoped to create: a foundation for growth, connection, and strength from the inside out. It’s a place where our team leads with heart, and where clients feel seen, supported, and empowered.

I’m incredibly proud of how far we’ve come—and even more excited for what’s ahead. Every instructor who joins our team, every client who walks through our doors, and every rep we push through together is part of the Platform story.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’ve been incredibly fortunate that Platform took off right away. From the very beginning, we built a strong and loyal following—and remarkably, some of those very first clients are still with us today, 16 years later.

Of course, it hasn’t always been easy. We’ve gone through various changes over the years, experimenting and evolving as we grew. At one point, we added spin bikes and introduced combination classes that paired Lagree with indoor cycling. It was a fun chapter, but after about two years, we realized our heart was still fully in Lagree and returned to our roots.

When I opened the studio in 2009, we had just eight Megaformer machines. Today, we’ve doubled that—now offering 16 machines in our group studio and two additional machines in a private room for one-on-one or small group sessions.

Like so many small businesses, COVID tested us in ways we never could have imagined. But through flexibility and resilience, we made it through. We pivoted quickly, offering COVID-safe, small group private sessions. That allowed our clients to keep moving, keep connecting, and maintain their wellness in a space that felt safe and supportive during uncertain times.

As you know, we’re big fans of Platform | Lagree Fitness. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
At Platform, we deliver more than just a workout—we offer a transformative experience rooted in the Lagree Fitness method and elevated by a strong, supportive community.

Lagree Fitness is the foundation of what we do. It’s a high-intensity, low-impact workout performed on the Megaformer, designed to challenge the body in just 40 efficient minutes. Through slow, controlled movements, Lagree activates deep muscle groups, improving strength, endurance, balance, and flexibility—all while protecting your joints. It’s a method that delivers fast, visible results without the wear and tear of traditional high-impact training.

But Platform is where the method becomes a lifestyle.

Since opening in 2009, Platform has grown into more than a fitness studio—we’ve built a space where people feel seen, supported, and empowered. Our classes are intense yet inclusive, our instructors are expertly trained and invested, and our energy is undeniably contagious. We welcome everyone—from first-timers to seasoned Lagree lovers—and are proud to foster a community that’s grounded in encouragement and connection. We also partner with the Community – join for a Friday Fit Club session, or ‘Singles Only’ Lagree speciality class or sauna and cold plunge at neighboring businesses like Soul Plunge or R3.

Continual Innovation
From navigating COVID with private, small-group sessions to expanding our space and offerings, we’re committed to evolving with purpose and serving our clients at every stage of their journey.

At Platform, we don’t just change bodies—we elevate lives, create lasting habits, and help people become the strongest version of themselves, inside and out.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I had a fun, active childhood shaped by parents who encouraged sports and movement. Most weekends were spent on a court or field, playing alongside friends and building strong bonds through competition and teamwork. I was the funny one—always cracking jokes and making light of any situation. Maybe a bit more of a rebel than my older sister, but always full of energy, curiosity, and a love for connection.

Sports weren’t just something I played—they were part of our family rhythm. I watched Monday Night Football with my dad every week, collected baseball cards, and even loved playing chess. Whether it was on a field or over a board, I was drawn to things that challenged me, brought people together, and let me think a few moves ahead.

Those moments sparked a lifelong love for movement, strategy, and community—values that still shape who I am and what I do today.
