Today we’d like to introduce you to Jim and Jame Frey.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Jim and Jame. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Jim Frey started building and distributing Burro Brand sawhorses over 40 years ago. He didn’t have a manufacturing plant or a top-level crew of employees yet – just a desire to build a genuine American product with integrity, quality and craftsmanship.
By 1978, with occasional help from family and friends, Jim grew Burro Brand into a well-respected local company that saw Burros being sold in over 20 lumber yards throughout the San Diego, CA area. But that was only the beginning! Within 10 years Burro Brand sawhorses became available in national Home Improvement Centers across the west.
Fast forward to the present – Burro Brand has expanded into three American manufacturing plants that service the entire USA and abroad, all while taking pride in remaining the small family business that Burro Brand still is today.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has been a challenging yet rewarding road to get where we are today. Some of the challenges Burro Brand has faced include relocating our manufacturing shop here in San Diego no less than 5 times; dealing with the fluctuating cost and availability of lumber (the main ingredient in every Burro!) on a continuing basis; and expanding into new markets and territories across the nation. It’s all been worth it though because in the end, we have grown into the national business we are today, with a strong San Diego foundation still intact.
