Meet JJ Moore

Today we’d like to introduce you to JJ Moore.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I grew up in Ventura and my friends and I loved to create stories together. Now none of what we did was really any good but it’s some of my most favorite memories. This is where I started drawing and has since become the core of what I want to do. I moved to attend LCAD and now that I’ve graduated I’ve been making my way in the art world.

Please tell us about your art.
I mostly make comics because it’s the easiest way to tell a story without others to help. I’m flexible with what medium I create in but digital is preferred because of how portable it is. But outside of that inks are my favorite. While I can draw realism, I have the most fun drawing stylized figures. The things that I’ve drawn have changed over the years and have been growing alongside me. When I first moved out a lot of my stories were very angry and erratic but now I love drawing florals and my stories are happier and more laid back. I think my favorite motif to have is “Found Family” I think it’s important for people to realize that their family doesn’t have to define them.

Given everything that is going on in the world today, do you think the role of artists has changed? How do local, national or international events and issues affect your art?
I don’t think the role of artists has changed. Artists have always been responding to political climates and they have been for centuries. Nothing is completely devoid of political influence because the people creating it will never be.

Even though most of my art is not political by nature my core beliefs are still there. I focus on mental health, gay rights, and finding a place to call home. In stories things change, and I can make that the change I want to see in the world.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
