Today we’d like to introduce you to Joe Olivarria.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Joe. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
We started the 501c3 in 2015 to help our veterans and underprivileged youth in our community. I wanted people to be able to create and experience the happiness music and art can bring.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely hasn’t been a smooth road but anything worthwhile, isn’t easy, and it’s not hard to do something you love. Our main struggle is funding. We have funded it’s entirety since it’s inception. In our current situation, we have to work at our other jobs to keep this afloat, which affects our ability to hold more free classes.
The whole point is to provide an Avenue for the less fortunate to express their creativity in the arts, where otherwise they may never realize hidden talents. It also is therapeutic for those who may have disabilities or trauma caused anxiety. Once we can get to a point where we don’t have to fund the 501c3 100% we can host more workshops and bigger classes
Please tell us about your work. What should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Music intro 4 children is for the community. We have music and art workshops to help and teach our vets and youth of the community. For art, we have painting in all mediums, sculpting, and drawing. Music has beat making, engineering, how to record digital and analog, and workshops to help learn computer skills and programs. What makes me proud and sets us apart from everybody is we don’t charge for anything, everything we offer is free
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Being able to help the community with my family and friends, seeing kids paint or play an instrument and fall in love. Some of these kids pick up this stuff quick and it’s the ones who don’t have access or the funds to even try. I’m forever in debt to my parents for introducing me to the arts its helped me in so many ways and I want to be able to share that
