Meet Joey Trucksess of JRT Roofing and Waterproofing, Inc.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joey Trucksess .

Hi Joey , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
We are a family owned and operated business, I am the founder and President. I began my roofing and construction career when I was 17 years old and have been able to work for multiple private and public sector construction management companies over the years, before founding our company in 2019. My first priority has always been people. I love to find what people are good at and surround them with a system that gives them the best oppertunity to be the best version of themselves. If our entire team is operating in their gifts then the by product orgnaniclly becomes succuss. With about 45 members on staff between full time, part time and sub contractors, the median age for our company is under 40 years old and we are projected to do 6.5 million dollars in gross revenue this year. I love the fact the young, talented men and women are developing a culture and brand that puts people over profit. We have worked really hard to build a like minded community that knows the importance of quality and communication. We have some of most talented roofers in the industry and our management team does a really excellent job of running the logistics for them. As much as I would love to take credit for it, I am just one small part of the process.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not. I have always been a little bit of a “Cowboy”, so to speak. Really what that means is that I have always tried to think with the mindset of “We can’t screw anything up that God cant fix.” So let’s go for it! I think that this way of thinking has been one of the things that has given us so much success. But it also has put us in situations where we have bitten off more than we can chew, And then of course COVID hit. In the midst of it we were the busiest we had ever been. But the lasting effects of product production delays and scarcity with material has forced us to be more flexible and resourceful than normal. All good things for a young company to be.

We’ve been impressed with JRT Roofing and Waterproofing, Inc. , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are a residential and commercial roofing and waterproofing company that specializes in custom sheet metal roofs, HOA and multifamily buildings, flat roofs and preventative maintenance programs. We have found that the best kind of roof is the one you don’t need. So if we can build a preventative maintenance program to help save you in the long run then that’s what we do. Our brand was founded behind the work ethic of my late grandfather “Ray Gross”. He inspired me to work hard with high integrity. He was the door man at the Hilton in downtown Los Angeles for 40 years. That kind of commitment and hard work was something I wanted to continue. And a fun fact about our logo. The two stars represent my two kids, Scarlett (10) and Knox (7)

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Go big. You miss 100% of the shots that you dont take.
