Meet John Miller

Today we’d like to introduce you to John Miller.

John, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have spent the better part of my life working for someone else’s dream, feeling unfulfilled and under-appreciated, my own dreams put on the back burner for what I believed were very valid reasons – security, responsibility, stability. It was my job to provide and more importantly, it had to be done a certain way. So I kept my head down and stayed put. Growing more and more unhappy, unsatisfied, and insane, someone took notice and asked…“What do you want, John?”

I wasn’t necessarily surprised by the question, I just never had the courage to truly answer it. Until now. This time whatever had been brewing in my heart and soul was screaming…“ENOUGH!”

I replied, “I want to be happy. Fulfilled in what I do and I want to help others do the same. I also want that help to financially take care of myself and my family without worry or fear.” To me it sounded too selfish, but it was how I felt.

They simply said, “Perfect! Let’s get to work!”

Ever since then, after many years on my own personal and professional development journey, I knew I wanted to create a space where others like me, struggling to find their path, needing a second chance at happiness and balance, could spend time being heard. Where they could express fears and doubts and move through them, not let them limit their way. I wanted to help others find THEIR joy, THEIR courage, THEIR confidence, THEIR path.

I immediately taught myself how to build a website and named it John Miller Consulting. I had read somewhere that I should use my name, as well as, state what I do so I didn’t “confuse anyone”.

I am very fortunate today to get to work with some of the most extraordinary and brave individuals who continue to take the plunge as I do every day. Who struggle and fight through adversity. Who are courageous and passionate. Who believe in their mission and will stop at nothing. Individuals who choose happiness, who chase impact, and create balance and joy in their lives, for themselves and for those around them.

Has it been a smooth road?
HECK no. And honestly, I wouldn’t want it any other way. My biggest learning has come from one of my biggest struggles in life, which is letting go. I stew in my decisions, analyzing and problem-solving, often keeping myself trapped in fear of whether it was right or wrong. While some of that can be healthy at times, it just meant more heartache and pain, more struggle than progress.

I am a perfectionist at heart.

I used to be so scared to commit to any decision that might not work out. My past failures and struggles amplified these decisions to a point of paralysis. My work halted along with my desired impact. I wanted to give so much, but I wasn’t confident in my giving. I wanted to serve so badly, but wouldn’t until I was convinced it was the BEST way to serve. All the while I was failing.

It wasn’t until I began learning how to embrace where I was and shift my expectations from perfection to evolution, that things began to move. Momentum started to build, along with it, confidence. I remember being at one of Brendon Burchard’s events and hearing him tell us…”They need you NOW, not later”. That really hit me hard and I still remind myself that every day.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I consider myself a Personal and Professional Development Coach. I enjoy working with individuals and businesses who care about balancing their lives with their work. I help people find confidence and competence in order to serve their mission at a greater level. This means taking action beyond their WHAT and WHY. As much as we all need motivation, and there are plenty of talented people out there doing just that, I really enjoy working beyond motivation into ACTION.

If you are overwhelmed, burned out, really struggling deeply with your choices and finding no way out, I am your guy. If you just want someone to share a virtual glass of wine with and hear about your day, I’m good for that too. If you’re looking for specific business strategy and process, let’s get after it.

In the end, a lot of people are just waiting for someone to ask them…”What is it that you want?”

That’s when the real work can begin.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The coaching industry is huge right now, mostly because of social media creating more and more “influencers”. This trend has been occurring for some time and is not going anywhere anytime soon.

However, I am not sure over time people will continue to just “follow” someone else’s life, watching rather than creating their own. The world will need healers and helpers, leaders and innovators. Teachers mostly. These will be the silent heroes working for a healthier and happier tomorrow.
