Today we’d like to introduce you to John Wells.
John, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Loud Fridge Theatre Group was born in 2019 when San Diego based actor/producer John Wells III was presented with the opportunity to bring the award-winning play “Straight” to California for its west coast premiere. Kate Reynolds and Leigh Akin stepped on as co-directors of “Straight” along with the help and inspiration of many other artists, actors and designers. Loud Fridge is now cooperative run by John, Kate and Leigh, who continue to work with the belief that joyful collaboration magnifies the creative process.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I have had an amazing team for this entire journey. They are supportive, innovative, and take charge of kinds of people. The biggest challenges, however, have been all of the normal challenges that come with starting a new theatre company. Mainly finding rental spaces and the funding to stay afloat as a new small theatre.
Tell us more about the business.
Loud Fridge Theatre Group, was founded by a collection of actors and designers with the common goal of telling honest stories well. We are a brand-new theatre group, excited to celebrate art within our community. We are dedicated to telling stories that reflect the human condition, stories that challenge us to question social norms, and stories that give us insight into every walk of life. We aim to be a constant noise in the community, telling stories that are bold, honest, and diverse- and telling them LOUDLY! We are a Theatre dedicated to people and therefore dedicated to you! We intend to make some noise!
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I consider myself very lucky. Not everyone has been blessed with a talented team who all have the same vision as you. To tell honest stories, and tell them well. I believe luck has played a role in a successful debut. But I also believe much of the success of Loud Fridge, thus far, has had everything to do with the hard work and dedication of everyone who has collaborated on the projects that we have produced.
