Meet Jolene Fisher of Southern California

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jolene Fisher.

Hi Jolene, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.

My story started in Ontario, Canada as a young ambitious performer with a dream to come to California and make a name for myself in the entertainment industry. In 2012, I made the Detroit Pistons Dance Team; unfortunately, I did not have a petitioner, enough letters of recommendations or deal memos, proof of press, awards, enough knowledge of what obtaining a work authorization for the United States of America really meant, and had to decline the offer. The silver lining, it was that experience that ignited my determination to never let my citizenship stop me from doing what I wanted to do. In 2013, I moved to Los Angeles, California on an F-1 Visa to study Dance Theatre at AMDA College and Conservatory of the Performing Arts.

I have spent the last eleven years prioritizing maintaining my work authorization, and as a result, I have performed professionally in both live theatre and motion pictures, and in recent years I have discovered an appreciation for set design and creative direction. My appreciation for San Diego really came into focus in 2023 when I performed as the lead role of Princess Sara in the Live Action Stunt Show “Pirates Ahoy” at SeaWorld San Diego through Mirage Entertainment. As well as, working as the Art Director with production company SAVVY Studios for various clients all over San Diego and surround areas. Some clients including ACE, Walprint and Cielo to name a few.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Besides constantly proving my worth as a creative individual to maintain my work authorization (not to mention the immigration dues), I’ve spent most of my professional career working freelance which naturally comes with obstacles and challenges due to lack of consistency. However, it has taught me to be extremely diligent and organized, how to work with different personally types, and how to create and maintain professional relationships, which I believe has served me well both personally and professionally.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?

In Front of the Camera – Stunt Performer / Dancer / Singer / Actress
Behind the Camera – Art Director / Production Assistant

I am proud of all my adventures; however, recent projects that I am proud of are Stunt Doubling the lead actress (Elle Chapman) on The Madison, assisting the production “Never Change!” as 1st Team Production Assistant, and Art Directing for various clients with Southern California local production company, SAVVY Studios.

My years of experience in multiple different avenues has, and will continue to, compliment the work that I do. Being able to appreciate the work that others around you do, is an incredible skill that often gets missed due to status or title, and I think it’s one of my biggest assets and what sets me apart from others.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?

I have been very fortunate to have some incredible mentors that have been with me since the beginning of my journey. I think the key is to find people with work ethic and personality you admire; people who show you kindness, appreciation, and guidance throughout your changing chapters.
