Today we’d like to introduce you to Jon Boyd.
Jon, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
We share a building with Made Lumber Supply who has been in business for over five years. Made Lumber specializes in live edge lumber and also makes custom furniture. In August 2019 Claro Coffee took over the front showroom of the building. The entire buildout inside Claro Coffee was done by Made Lumber Supply. Now we have a coffee shop/showroom that showcases our design capabilities and serves great coffee!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We always joke that the buildout of the coffee shop was the easy part! Claro Coffee is kind of off the beaten path, so getting people into our shop when we first opened was a challenge. It takes some time to get your name out when you first open and gain traction on social media. I feel like once we get customers into our shop for the first time, they always come back because of our unique vibe and great coffee.
Tell us about your company. What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of as a company? What sets you apart from others?
We specialize in espresso drinks using Zumbar coffee. One of the owners, Jorge, is from Cuba and has created several specialty drinks like the Cuban Cafe con Leche and the Cafe Bombom. We have also been told that our dirty chai is one of the best in San Diego.
As a company, I think we are most proud of seeing the reaction of customers when they walk in the door and say “Wow!” We did all the work ourselves transforming the old showroom into a coffee shop. Seeing all the positive reactions from our customers is validation that all the work we put in was worth it.
