Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Smith.
Jonathan, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always had a love for writing, literature and “paperwork”. I was that kid growing up that had one of those massive desktop computers in my room acting like I worked in an office. I was and still am, very organized. When I was around ten or eleven, I’d type up these fake sign-in sheets for people before they could come in my room. So, from there, I nourished that side of myself. Once I moved to San Diego, I started attending San Diego Mesa College where I studied communications and journalism. I wrote for the Mesa Press school newspaper and that’s where it all started.
In late 2017, I created my first lifestyle blog where I included features, curated content and then later branched out to offer services that resembled PR. Now here we are, a PR business!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I wouldn’t say it’s been smooth, however, it hasn’t been challenging to the point of frustration either. Most of the “struggles” or obstacles I’d say, have just been the normal stuff: licenses, legal stuff. The basics really.
SW/FT – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Sure. SW/FT Communications and Consulting is a boutique style PR agency. Some of our more immediate services are: brand management, product/spokesperson placement and integrated marketing campaigns. In the fall we’re going to be offering more services once we’ve had our hard launch.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Being teachable. With anything in life, in order for us to grow and evolve, you need to be teachable. Being open to ideas and strategies that weren’t in your peripheral is important. Being able to work as a time and have a difference in opinion without harm is always important.
