Today we’d like to introduce you to Josh Lane.
Josh, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Getting into photography kinda happened by chance. A close friend, who is really into birds, asked me to go to “hawk watch” out in Ramona and take pictures so she could just watch the presentation but still have pictures of all the birds. Well long story short, I loved it and have been doing wildlife and nature photography for the last two years. I like to try other styles and subject matter but my passion is wildlife for sure!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The biggest challenge I had getting started, aside from knowing nothing about cameras and photography, was probably the fact that I had a fear of birds. This made getting close enough for pictures a bit difficult at first, but now they are one of my favorite subjects to capture!
Please tell us more about your work. What do you do? What do you specialize in? What sets you apart from competition?
JD Shots is a photography business, specializing in nature and wildlife photography while also venturing into other genres of photography. I think I’m mostly known for my bird photography (they can be a fun and challenging subject to capture). I’ve had several friends and family members tell me my work has inspired them to take up photography and anytime you can inspire others, you must be doing something right. Not sure what sets me apart, I just try to create images I can be proud of, and hopefully, that joy and passion will come through in my work.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Realizing you’re gonna make mistakes, you’re gonna miss shots and that’s ok; it happens to everyone. Accepting that has made photography a lot more fun and enjoyable, and isn’t that why we do it!
