Today we’d like to introduce you to Josh Perez.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Josh. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have been in the hair industry for 15 years. I have always had a love for the hair industry, I can still remember being about four years old and being so picky about my hair. I started doing my friends hair in middle school and all through high school. However, I didn’t decide to go to beauty school until I was about 21. Once in beauty school, I went to my first beauty expo and realized I wanted to become an educator for a product company. I thought how cool would it be to get trained and pay to teach and do what you love.
Fast forward 14 years later, I have had the opportunity to have been working with Sexyhair, have traveled the world doing what I love, got the opportunity to live in Italy for three years and learn from a great European artist. I have been an instructor at our Sexyhair Academy in Los Angeles. Received the awards of Educator of the year, Academy of the year, and master International artist of the year. Now I form part of Sexyhair’s visionary Team, where I focus on men’s grooming and creating the master’s men’s hair trends. As of August 31, 2020, I opened up my first hair studio. My goal with my studio is to share my knowledge and help my team grow and hopefully learn from my experience and help them accomplish their goals.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has not been smooth. The hair industry is very competitive, and it is hard to stand out. The biggest obstacle is self-confidence. I lacked confidence in my skills, and I did not have the knowledge to create trends looks. As the years went on, and the more I practiced and trained, I gained confidence. I strained my focus on obtaining as much knowledge and skills along the way. I found what a niche that I really enjoyed doing and realized that I had a real talent for it. My passion is driven by knowledge, the more I learn the more confident in my work I become. I have shifted my focus on specializing in men’s grooming and I really enjoy it.

Josh Perez Hair Studio is a new business, but with years of experience in all hair types. As a dual license holder (Cosmetologist/Barber), I have the ability to provide a vast amount of services to my clients. I take pride in working on all hair types and being a gender-fluid studio. We offer full services for all our clients; full consultation, product recommendations, color services, how to’s and home care advice. I believe, as an Educator for Sexyhair, I have the advantage of understanding how to really break down the styling steps and educate my clients so they may replicate their styles at home. My goal is to empower my clients to look and feel their best even after they walk out of my studio.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My future plans for Josh Perez Studio is to obtain as much experience in working and operating a Studio. My true passion is barbering, grooming and styling. I would love to expand a grooming-centric lounge in the cost. As gender-neutral is the future of our industry, I would like to continue to be a gender-fluid business and price by service and not by gender as it is currently the standard in our industry.
