Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Green.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Joshua. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I grew up in Redlands, California with a family of pastors. As you can imagine, early on my parents instilled strong values of giving back and supporting our local community. I carry those early same principles with me throughout all of my businesses to this day.
Veriheal was discovered when my partner, Samuel Adetunji, and I were working together for a large Fortune 500 finance firm. We were actually on the ground at one point in 2015 running around Washington D.C. going door to door helping sign up patients for the medical cannabis program in the district. It was tough work, but extremely rewarding seeing this plant change lives right before our eyes. This pushed us to scale and start to rely heavily on technology to create a service that could serve everyone that had an interest in using medical cannabis to better their health.
Fast forward a few years and thousands of hours of hard work – Veriheal has a team of over 50 employees, supports over 1 million website users per year, and is showing no signs of slowing down.
Has it been a smooth road?
As an African-American entrepreneur in the cannabis industry, all odds were against us. However, hearing no from multiple investors, having industry professionals telling us the business wouldn’t work, being the only black people in the meeting, turned into a huge source of motivation for us. We’ve leaned heavily on our awesome team of marketers, developers, customer, and patient support specialists, and many others to bring their unique perspectives into the conversation of how we can continually serve more patients every month. It’s this diversity of opinion that has allowed us to do so well in the space.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
In a basic sense, Veriheal helps patients across to learn about the medical value of cannabis and how it could influence their very specific conditions. Also, in over 30 states, we help patients get approved for medical use of the plant. Our platform supports people who are completely new to cannabis, as well as seasoned vets to the treatment. We’ve built a robust system of online tools and resources for patients to leverage for their own well-being.
Our strong suit is definitely our content. Every day we put out the freshest cannabis news – be it videos, blogs, social media graphics, et.. Transforming from a black-market to a regulated one, there is this huge stigma about the plant – with easily digestible and readily accessible content, we’re able to educate every step of the way. And that’s what will change this industry for the better – education on every level.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I love San Diego. There’s a reason my partner and I came back here. We love the east coast, don’t get me wrong, it taught us how to hustle. But, for cannabis, California is always king. Our partners here are the best in the world, and we needed to be closer to them. If you’re starting in cannabis – San Diego has so much potential, but you have to remember that the barrier to entry here is going to be much higher than say Virginia, where they are slowly just starting to open their medical program. You have to weigh all the odds.
