Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua and Jacquelyn Plummer.
Joshua and Jacquelyn, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Our idea came together while we were at an event one evening, noticing the lack of professional/luxurious ways to incorporate cannabis and CBD into events. There was (and still is) a huge negative stereotype around cannabis. We wanted to find a way to show the general public that there are elegant ways to incorporate cannabis into events.
We decided to start Elevated Engagements at the end of 2017 and hosted our first major event in February 2018, which was our Valentine’s Day Experience. This event proved that enjoying cannabis at events was desired and emphasized a greater need for our service. Since then our business has flourished and we have been apart of so many great weddings, parties, dinners, award shows, and more. Helping to normalize cannabis by incorporating it into social events has been such a wonderful experience for us.
Has it been a smooth road?
As you can imagine leaving your “corporate job” to open up your own business is scary. We have had such great success thus far but it has not always been a smooth road. We have overcome obstacles and feel blessed to be where we are today.
Because we started our business without any major investors, we became responsible for running all departments of the business: sales, marketing, website development, customer service, and more. We spent many hours hitting the streets and putting in the work to market our business. Being in the cannabis industry has presented unique challenges. For example, we are unable to advertise on Google, Facebook, or other popular marketing sites. Also we are unable to have traditional bank accounts. The most difficult obstacle has been the stigma surrounding cannabis and not being able to speak freely about our business to the general public and making connections in the traditional event space. For these reasons we have had to get VERY creative when it comes to spreading the word about Elevated Engagements.
Tell us more about the business.
Elevated Engagements, Southern California’s luxury mobile budtending and event planning service, provides unique ways to incorporate cannabis into many different events including budtending for weddings, birthday parties, and corporate events.
We are passionate about creating an exceptional experience. Much like hiring a mobile bartender, we can provide an option for your guests who prefer cannabis products. We offer free consultations to cater our services to fit your needs. This ranges from mobile budtending services to event planning and coordination. Elevated Engagements’ mission is to educate consumers, eliminate stigma, and elevate the experience by incorporating cannabis into social settings.
There aren’t a lot of companies that offer the services we do. However, I would be remiss not mentioning our awesome partners that help make our events one of kind.
For our infused dinners we utilize the experience of Anne and Ivan from Mangia Ghanja. For all of our travel needs, we use Khris and Kaylena from MJ Tours. For our hosted events, we use EventHi as our ticketing platform. For those looking for a more intimate use for cannabis, we would call our friend Zac Smith at Traveling Hands SD for cannabis-infused massages.
Elevated Engagements also curates custom gift boxes filled with one of a kind cannabis-themed products. These have been a huge hit for us this past year, especially around the holiday season.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Moving forward this industry is only going to grow. We were one of the first companies to offer these unique services. Although people may continue to be a little skeptical about incorporating cannabis, it continues to become more accepted.
As options for banking and technology in the cannabis industry continue to expand, this will allow for more businesses to become involved. Ultimately this will help the cannabis industry be more efficient, more well-known, and safer for the consumer.
In the next 5 years I see events, specifically weddings, with cannabis playing a larger role by more vendors introducing cannabis into their services. The brides and grooms will be asking themselves, “should we have alcohol or cannabis at our wedding?”
