Today we’d like to introduce you to Josie Day.
Hi Josie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I moved to San Diego from Malta in 2003 to pursue music. I started finding local musicians and joining cover bands. Mostly garage and hobby bands at the time. In 2015, music became my full time gig when I started my own band and everything was great until Covid happened and shut everything down. I’m not gigging as much as I used to these days, honestly 2-3 shows a week had become somewhat exhausting. Now I’m focusing more on higher quality gigs. I perform in a variety of projects, some are still only startups. “Groove is in the Heart” is a 90s and beyond band we formed in 2020. “Celebrating Whitney’ is a tribute to Whitney Houston and is a couple years old. I was also asked to sing in a Linda Ronstadt tribute called “You’re no good”. Then we have a new acoustic duo called “Langdon Day” with guitar player/singer Steven Langdon. A couple new projects coming up are “A Day In The 80s” which is an 80s tribute band and a super secret tribute I’m not sure I’m allowed to talk about yet lol.
I also released an all original album in 2018 called “Love Spell’, followed by a single called “Live for Love”. You can find me on Spotify and all other streaming platforms. Songwriting is not really a passion of mine, more of a bucket list item to have something out there that’s all mine that will live forever, so I’m really proud of those songs. My passion is singing live and entertaining crowds. I also do session work, I have a studio setup in my home. You can find me on sites like Airgigs and Soundbetter.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I don’t think being a musician can ever be a smooth road! From keeping a band together to finding the right talent for the right project, and then getting booked, it takes some thick skin. I look back at all that I have accomplished so far and it is definitely a team effort. Some people are better at the business side than others. But we all bring our talents together to keep the machine moving. I definitely could not have come this far on my own. Being backed and supported by your partner also plays a big role, and I am grateful that I have a husband that has pushed me and encouraged me and helped me to keep chasing my dreams.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Sparkle With Josie formerly Josie Got Bling?
When everything shut down during Covid I started an online business selling jewelry and other cool stuff. It’s very fulfilling having something that’s all mine and I can run however I want to. I have some amazing customers that have supported me since the beginning, and I meet new ones every day! I sell mainly in a facebook group, Facebook.com/groups/sparklewithjo, and I also have a website JosieGotBling.com. I changed the name after I left a MLM company and branched out on my own a couple years ago.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
That I’m from Malta I guess. Most people don’t even know where it is.
