So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Like many new businesses, it began with an idea – one in which I was willing to take a risk in going for! I’ve always been an arts and crafts kind of girl. Now, as an adult, I am able to bring my passion for creativity and faith to life! Being inspired by the people that God has put in my life is what drove me to make special impressions in the hearts of those around me. A huge factor is also the desired need locally, here in San Diego. Being Middle Eastern and Catholic, as many of you are aware of, we have a lot… and I mean A LOT of special occasions year round. From baptisms and communions to many many weddings, no matter what the event is, one of the most beautiful gifts to give is the power of prayer. I am thankful for having my family and friends support me and being able to be an advocate for not only the younger but also the older generations to embrace their faith!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I am very much a people pleaser and I believe one of my biggest challenges is having too many options for my customers. I like to put myself in my customer’s shoes and when I think of myself purchasing something as beautiful and meaningful as a keepsake, then I would like to see what options I have to uniquely customize to my liking. Now, given that I have many options (colors, pieces, styles, etc.) that initially requires a lot of time, research, and spending. Although this may seem like one of my biggest challenges thus far, I love to satisfy my customers’ needs and will continue to do so!

Keepsakes By JK is my way of creating beautiful and UNIQUE pieces for you and your loved ones. I specialize in creating customized rosaries, pins, and other accessory items to each customers’ taste, because who doesn’t like options? Not only do I use high-quality products, but every piece is made from love! I like to get to know each customer individually and understand what their purchase may be going towards. I feel as though this is a crucial way of getting to know my customers and building that rapport to receive positive feedback. Having a degree in Marketing (go Aztecs!), one of the most important things you learn is how word of mouth is EVERYTHING. Getting to know my customers personally and actually LISTENING to what they want is what sets me apart from the competition… and of course, having the most beautiful pieces ever! This is only the beginning and I can’t wait to show you what’s to come!
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I have a lot of exciting plans for my future career as a designer. I’m actually in the process of having a set up in a local home goods store in the Rancho San Diego area. This way I can have customers see the items first hand and feel the pieces on display and also ready to buy! I love getting ideas thrown at me, and that’s part of the reason I came up with the name “keepsakes” because I didn’t want to limit myself. I know that with time and preparation I can achieve many great things and expand to much more!
