Today we’d like to introduce you to JR Pecache.
Thanks for sharing your story with us JR. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I began photography as a hobby after I took a photography class in High School. I started just shooting friends, and they began to recommend me to their friends and family members who needed photography services. Since then its has blossomed into a source of income outside of my normal work duties as a Graphic Designer.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The struggles of being a photography has always been an issue, and is part of the reason why I don’t do it as a full time gig. Being an artist in any aspect has always been associated with the struggle, at least when you are first starting out. I think the biggest challenge of all is getting others to recognize that its more than just a hobby for a lot of photographers and we can’t just shoot for fun or exposure because we need to support ourselves as well.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am a portrait/lifestyle photographer and this is my business. The thing that makes me most proud about doing what I do, is when I get feedback from my clients. Hearing them happy about the photos has truly been the most rewarding. In a market for photography, it is very difficult to stand out from others just because it is so saturated. Some things that I try to do to stand out are fast turn around times on edited photos and providing a makeup artist if needed.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up I was a very shy person, and when I started photography that was something I struggled with because in order to get the shots or the people you want to work with, you have to speak out. Over the years, it’s helped me become a more outgoing person. I am more comfortable with not only myself, but the people I chose to spend time with.
