Meet Juliana Pulido and Omar Frausto

Today we’d like to introduce you to Juliana Pulido and Omar Frausto.

Juliana and Omar, before we jump into specific questions about your work, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Since we had been kids we both knew we had a passion for music. But ten years ago we both went to an electronic music event, and we fell in love with the scene. That for us was the start of this duo. Frosto’s partner linked both of us up for a music jam, and from that day we kept meeting up and making music. Slowly we started purchasing equipment and invested more time into our craft. We kept learning from each other and always supported one another since at that time we were our own individual artists.

We both would connect with the same people in the local music industry and for a couple of years, we had the same gigs. Within time we decided to become a duo and from that decision more opportunities were offered to us. One of those opportunities was working with Revive and hosting underground events with them. Revive was also a door in for us to play at certain hot spots in the night scene of San Diego. We would go from playing at Bassmnt, House of Blues, Spin Nightclub to also playing underground events in warehouses.

We lost focus during the time of helping Revive organize events and decided to take a break to focus on our music production. Since we made a come back from our year-long break, we have been releasing music every month. We don’t plan on stopping and the results of our music production is being noticed. From that response, we have been consistently supported by promoters in the electronic music scene.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been a smooth road. When we first started, promoters wouldn’t take us seriously. One of our biggest struggles was mixing and mastering our music when we were beginners. We were not confident in releasing any music. We were great deejays, but the quality of our music wasn’t fully there. We believed in how great our music could sound and worked at bettering the quality during our year-long break. The break for us was a struggle, we feared people would forget about us since we had stopped being in the public eye.

There were times where we felt like this industry was not for us. At times we felt like giving up and not pursuing music. But we knew we could not give up a big part of what makes us, us. Not only did promoters not take us seriously but they took advantage of us. The music industry is rough for a beginning artist, and knowledge is what we needed. We took initiative and applied for business of music courses at a community college. We now know how the business works behind the music. I guess we would say that a big struggle was that we didn’t have a mentor, we have learned as we go.

Tell us more about your work.
Frosto & J-Note is a DJ duo. We are known for being music producers and deejays. We like to make people dance! We are very proud of our original production and most of our music also comes with original vocals. I think what sets us apart from others is our brother/sister chemistry and enthusiasm on stage.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Our biggest credit goes to our best friends, who we call our biffles. They have been our biggest supporters since we started making music together. They are at every event we play, they’re front row and center. It is a beautiful feeling to have your best friends believe in you and that has helped us push through the hard times. Revive was also a big part of us growing in the San Diego nightlife. Juan Collazo the founder of Revive has always been very humble and has connected us with other promoters throughout the years.

We’re also very fortunate to have Matt Villamar’s help when it came to mixing and mastering our music. Another good friend is Brian Macias, he is the founder of Local Movement. Brian has been our sponsor for apparel. He has supported us through this musical journey. We also have a very important member in our team which is Jorge Avilez. Jorge came to us and has been the man behind all of our amazing visuals. He is so creative when it comes to our pictures and videos. Most importantly is our parents. We both have very supportive parents and they couldn’t be any prouder of our hustle in this tough industry.
