Today we’d like to introduce you to Julie Scrivener.
Julie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I graduated from Fordham University in the Bronx with a finance and marketing degree and worked at the New York Stock Exchange before moving to San Diego in April 2000. I continued to work in finance initially in San Diego but got into wedding planning thanks in part to my husband (Mick of Elite British DJ!).
He started to DJ again after our October 2001 wedding where our DJ company was horrible, I tagged along to weddings with him and helped a few coordinators on the day that were in the weeds or needed an extra set of hands! I decided that this was something I liked to do and was good at so I started doing weddings on the side in 2004. In 2007, I quit my job and started doing this full time!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I think I had the normal obstacles/challenges with building a business name. Through the years I have met and worked with a lot of great wedding vendors and have great resources to refer my clients to. I have built a great name and continue to love what I do and be successful!
Please tell us about The Best Wedding For You.
I do wedding and event planning/coordination. I do Month of Coordination up to full service. I also am married to a wedding DJ (Elite British DJ), so we do packages together! I am also proud to be a winner of The Knot Best of Weddings each year and the WeddingWire Couples’ Choice awards. Both of these are awarded based on 5-star reviews from clients. Plus I am in The Knot Hall of Fame!
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I don’t think there is anything extreme that I could put my finger on to do differently…
