Meet Kahlil Nash

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kahlil Nash.

Artists can be dime-a-dozen, but there is only one Kahlil Nash.

Emerging from the elite San Diego music scene in California, Kahlil Nash is an 18-year-old Funk/Rock and R&B recording artist/producer and multi-instrumentalist that began hitting the ground running with his music career in 2013, which stems from his affinity for arts/entertainment throughout his whole life.

Known for his versatile style and multifaceted signature sound, Kahlil’s music touches on equal parts originality and familiarity; giving his audience a taste of something fresh yet still identifiable. He’s the type of artist that truly connects with his fans and makes them a priority. Since gracing the stage, he has had the opportunity to perform at a vast array of prominent venues and events.

Including a two year residency at Hard Rock Cafe San Diego, shows at the House of Blues San Diego’s Voodoo Room and Main Stage, The Irenic, Soma, Backup sang for Grammy-nominated artist Andra Day at the RiseUp As One concert and has been on stage alongside Bootsy Collins.

Kahlil’s music is also reminiscent of many personal artist influences, including industry heavyweights like Michael Jackson, Prince, Bruno Mars, Smokey Robinson, Stevie Wonder, among many others. On top of writing his own music, he has also produced a variety of remixes such as ‘Finesse’ by Bruno Mars ft. Cardi B (which features a self-written and performed guitar solo as well as a verse), ‘Forgot About Dre’ by Dr. Dre ft. Eminem and ‘Bitch Better Have My Money’ by Rihanna for iHeart Radio’s Jamn 95.7.

As Kahlil continues to compose, create, manifest and spread the heat throughout 2018 and beyond, he plans on writing and recording new material to release in 2019 and already has the process off the ground. His direction is promising, and as he continues to make his way to the top at the pace he’s currently going, Kahlil will eventually be a household name everyone will be talking about.

Has it been a smooth road?
It’s definitely been a struggle trying to keep a balance between having a social life and working on my passion. I was the type of kid that would just sit in his room and make music all day. My mom had to make me get a life and have friends. My mom and I have grown together in learning about the business side of music by going to conferences, talking to people in the industry, and of course through trial and error. The road definitely hasn’t been smooth, but I continue to keep working hard so I can get where I want to be.

Please tell us more about your work.
I’m most proud of the work that I’ve put into my music as an independent artist. Ever since I was 13, I’ve been producing, writing, and recording my own music. When I released my first EP at 16 years old, I had envisioned what the cover would look like and had my friend who’s a visual artist create a piece of artwork for the cover. I also had my first photo shoot done by Diva Hammad for the back cover of my EP with the help of my mom and her connections.

Aside from that, what sets me apart from others is the type of music that I do. The fusion of Funk/Rock/RnB isn’t very popular here in San Diego, so I’m typically booked on either a hip hop show or alternative rock shows. There’s, of course, a Neo-soul/RnB scene here in San Diego but artists and bands like those perform in 21+ nightclubs which I’m not allowed to be in cause I’m only 18.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I think people are starting to get back into music with more musicianship. As far as the pop scene goes, I feel like RnB and “feel good” music is starting to resurface with artists like Ella Mai, Daniel Caesar, H.E.R., Childish Gambino with the ‘Awaken, My Love!’ album, and of course Bruno Mars with the ‘24k Magic’ album.
