Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaila Reeves.
Kaila, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was raised in Carlsbad and my grandma who owns Hoof Haven introduced me to riding at 2 years old, I’ve been doing it ever since! I currently do competitive show jumping with my 4 horses along with my 6 rescue Minis who I do trick demos, and occasionally some therapy sessions with!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road it has had many bumps! For example for my senior project in high school I decided to train a horse that has had 0 training/ background and turn him into a competitive show jumper, there was many obstacles and bumps in the road but it was 100% worth it. What is difficult is every horse is different so you have to find out their personalities, what body language they like more etc! My minis are another good example of why it could be difficult is each mini likes to learn in a different way and not all learn from the same method. So you have to find out what they like most
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Hoof Haven Farms – what should we know?
Hoof Haven Farms is an equestrian training facility that trains anywhere from beginners-advanced riders. We train people how to jump or even do western riding and turn them into champions!
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Being patient is the biggest characteristic you can have while dealing with horses and even beginner riders, you have to always be supportive and to keep the person or horse going
