Meet Kailee Powers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kailee Powers.

Kailee, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I began my photography/entrepreneurship journey when I was fifteen years old in high school. My first official paid client was a high school senior when I was a sophomore! I started photography doing graduation portraits and families. I gained the confidence to do weddings when I was 18 and went full time at age 20! Currently, I am 22 running my business full time doing fashion, wedding, family, and graduation photos. I travel all around the west coast and love every second of my always crazy schedule!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I have definitely had my fair share of struggles. I struggled as a young person walking into an industry with a lot of established older professionals. People would overlook me for my age/gender constantly. I would beg just about anyone to let me take their photos!

It took about a year to build my portfolio to begin attracting clients. I struggled a lot too with the never-ending battle to set healthy boundaries to avoid being overworked. The longer I’ve been doing this full time though I have been figuring out ways to help make my path smoother and better handle unexpected struggles that come my way!

We’d love to hear more about what you do.
I do everything involved in a photo shoot from handling inquiries, billing, shooting, and editing! I specialize in portraits. Mostly weddings, families, and couple photography. What I am most known for is my ability to capture natural and candid moments.

I am most proud of my mission to put my clients wants and needs ahead of anything else! I love having fun with my clients and becoming their friend after working with them.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I would say luck hasn’t played much of a role in my life and business. I think you create your own magic in your life. I also believe your passion fuels your purpose and mine is to love people and take beautiful photos that last a lifetime! I have had some amazing opportunities through networking which I feel very lucky for.
