Today we’d like to introduce you to Kait Peterson.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
My entire life I’ve loved creating. As a young girl, I created mostly using paint & making mixed media projects. In High School I found theatre-or it found me, I’m not sure. Theatre helped me express myself in a whole new way, and helped me get out of my shell. It helped me express emotion through story and a character. Creating this business has allowed me to express myself in many ways, exactly how I want to; with no restrictions. Everything from working with graphic designers and photographers (at times being my own) to the hands-on process of sewing can look exactly how I want it, and I love that.
Please tell us about your art.
I love all types of art from abstract paintings to a simple black and white portrait. But there is something that I like about the predictability of sewing. When you see the uncut piece of linen, it may not look like much, but then it comes together so beautifully. I started our little business as a way to make a more affordable baby sling for the average family (like my own.) At the time my daughter was two to three months old and everything on the market was so expensive. I thought, “I bet we could make these for a lot less.” And that’s been our goal from the beginning, to create an affordable, quality product that allows the parent or guardian a way to connect with their little one.
We often hear from artists that being an artist can be lonely. Any advice for those looking to connect with other artists?
I think whether you’re trying to make a living as an artist or run your own business you can encounter many moments of loneliness if you remain isolated. The beauty of social media, is that it can actually be social! I’ve met lots of wonderful creatives on social media who have been very supportive and we all encourage each other.
