Today we’d like to introduce you to Kamron Bahrami.
Kamron, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was born and raised in San Diego. I’m pretty well-traveled but knew that this would always be my home. I had aspirations of becoming an Electrical Engineer growing up, but started envisioning a career in Computer Science as I went through high school. I attended San Diego State University and started my degree in Computer Science, but switched to Finance after a year as I took a more keen interest in investments.
I graduated with my BS in Finance in 2013, worked a year in accounting, then took a job with Independent Capital Management and haven’t looked back. I was recently promoted to Senior District Manager and look forward to my future here.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has been a relatively smooth road, but not without its obstacles. The average financial advisor in the US is in their low 50’s, so it wasn’t easy starting out as a recent college graduate. I worked a lot of long hours, had to continuously motivate myself, and handled more rejection than I was accustomed to.
Some of my closest friends and family never even met with me! However, as more people saw I was dedicated to my career, competent, and trustworthy, it grew easier over time. These challenges have only made me better at my job and helped me grow as a person and a professional.
Independent Capital Management – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Independent Capital Management just turned thirty years old and has grown consistently since it’s establishment. We are an independent and full-service financial services company, meaning we’re able to help with retirement, college savings, real estate, mortgages, estate planning, insurances, asset preservation, and more.
I have a team of five employees that I work closely with to help them develop and grow their businesses. I continue to work with my own clients and build my client base as well, focusing on young professionals/families, small businesses, and people who are getting closer to retirement.
I have only good things to say about ICM. Our company is made up of smart, caring, and fun people and this is reflected in both the office culture as well as at our holiday parties, annual ICM trips, and other events. We are also very flexible with our employees and work with each individual to help them build their business their way while being considerate of their personal needs.
The primary key to my success is simple: caring about my clients, their well-being, and their financial goals. I hope to work with my clients for their entire lives and my level of service reflects that. However, my work ethic and never-give-up attitude have also been important factors. Lastly, being independent (not having to use anything proprietary) and full-service allows me to put together personalized financial plans for clients instead of ‘selling’ them a pre-packaged one. This gives me an ethical advantage over many others and can improve the client’s experience and results.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
To me, being successful is not about having the highest income possible. It’s about waking up in the morning and knowing that you’re helping others and making a positive impact in their life. I am happy on my way to work and when concluding my day so I can confidently say I’m successful.
