Today we’d like to introduce you to Karen Olea.
Karen, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve always been in love with fashion and how it makes me feel. Keeping up with today’s trends and staying true to my own style makes life a little sweeter & my closet a little fuller. I’m currently going to school to be a TV Host, and though that may have little or nothing to do with being a fashion blogger; I use my Instagram as a platform for any future opportunities and to inspire others. My family and friends can text me anytime to reach me, I saw Instagram as a network for my view on fashion and creativity.
So one day, I made an Instagram account, grabbed my grandpa’s camera stand, downloaded a timer on my iPhone and started taking pictures of my daily outfits. From time to time I’ll be lucky enough to have someone take my picture. But usually, I am a one-woman show. I drive around San Diego, stop at cool backgrounds, take out my camera stand and phone, and snap a quick picture! From collaboration opportunities to promotions, I’m doing something that makes me happy and that’s what this is all about.
Has it been a smooth road?
At first, blogging was a breeze! I felt like companies were reaching out to me to promote their brand every week! From teeth whitening brands to jewelry brands, to clothing brands; and I was so overwhelmed, in a good way! Then life got a little busier and due to lack of content and slacking off some weeks, I felt like I lost the momentum. It definitely has its slow seasons but if you’re having fun you start to look at it as a hobby and not really a tough road with a destination. There is no destination for me as a fashion blogger, my only goal is to have fun and to inspire along the way!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Karen Olea story. Tell us more about the business.
I am a fashion blogger, I inspire others by creating outfits that you wouldn’t imagine together. I’m not just your typical fashion blogger, that you see on Instagram wearing overpriced garments and you double tap while thinking “I’ll never be able to afford that top”. I’m a fashion blogger who thrift shops, most of my outfits are under $20.
I promote style without breaking your bank. I take my followers through a thrift shopping day and show them how to find affordable trendy pieces via Snapchat. I like to instill that you make the outfit fabulous, not the price tag. Whether you’re someone who has $20 to spend or $200, you can find the same trends and be alike.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see my image changing as I get more into my official career. Perhaps more involvement in video blogging or Youtube. I’d like my followers to get to know me on a more personal level, and I think video blogging would do that.
