Today we’d like to introduce you to Karla Cordova.
Karla, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I first started insurance right out of high school in 2005 as a receptionist. I wasn’t sure what to do with my life now that high school was over. I was in community college, but still with no clear vision of where I wanted to go. I was raised by a single mother with low income and I didn’t have many opportunities available to me. I needed to work and become independent to relief some of that pressure off of my mother who was still caring for my younger brother. Then I became pregnant and was now also a young single mom at age 19. My goals then got bigger and bigger now that I had a little one to look after. I stayed in the insurance industry with many drives and motivation to move up the ladder. I started my journey with Allstate in 2007 after returning from maternity leave. Working with independent agents, there was not much training. I self-taught myself through most of it. But I enjoyed the challenge. I started as a Customer Service Rep, moved up to Personal Lines Sales and I am now the Business Insurance Specialist. Business Insurance is one type of insurance most agents try to avoid due to the difficulty. Not me, I strive for the challenges. I have found a passion for helping small business owners protect what they have worked so hard for. Owning or starting a business is one of the biggest gambles of life. I take pride in having the knowledge and tools to be able to educate these hard working people on how to protect one of their biggest assets. I only expect to excel my knowledge and continue to grow as a professional.
Has it been a smooth road?
Obstacles and challenges are almost inevitable in personal life as well as professional life. Juggling being a single mom along with being a professional workaholic has probably been my biggest challenge. Having to travel for work from time to time while having little ones at home is tough. I have learned how to balance it out and I finally feel like it is becoming more smooth as the years pass. I hope that my dedication to my career will only leave my children with a good example on how to be a dedicated, hard working professional.
Tell us more about the business.
I specialize in Small Business Insurance. I help business owners evaluate their liability needs, protect all their inventory and contents that they have worked so hard to accumulate and also extend protection to their employees with Workers Compensation. Most importantly, I can also help with personal needs such as personal auto, homeowners, life insurance, etc. My comprehensive knowledge and specialties are what sets me apart from other agents that may only specialize in one subject. I am considered a one stop shop.
