Meet Kat Reichmuth of The Simplified Life

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kat Reichmuth.

Hi Kat, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Back in 2007, after moving 10+ times and realizing that each time I moved and let go of things, I felt better. I was a cluttered packrat for years, and finally felt free and figured I could help other women feel the same sense of peace and relief of letting things go. At the same time, Clean Sweep and Clean House were on TV, and a quick Google search revealed that home organizing was indeed a business possibility. So, I started The Simplified Life and have helped thousands of women worldwide calm the chaos in their homes and lives through my in-home coaching and flagship course: Sanctuary.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Oh man, that good ol’ impostor syndrome rears its head often. Entrepreneurship isn’t for the faint of heart, but just wanted all of you to know that if you have a calling in your heart to teach and lead, that desire is there on purpose, and you can do it! Every single one of my entrepreneur friends has called me crying at some point, saying they feel like a fraud. We all have those moments. Just remember, even if you feel like a mess, you can still teach, and people can still learn and grow from what you have to offer!

Also, the pandemic hit, and “in-home organizing” was no longer a thing, which was terrifying and exciting at the same time. It lead to the launch of Sanctuary, my group virtual program that’s helped women worldwide. It was a great reminder to always have a few different offerings in the mix.

We’ve been impressed with The Simplified Life, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Simplified Life helps women worldwide tame the chaos and clutter in their homes and lives. Through our flagship program, Sanctuary, we offer a trauma-informed approach to regulating the nervous system, which impacts our clutter, chaos, and buying and helps us move past the dysregulated state most of us spend our lives in.

I don’t know of any other home organizer or coach offering a similar program, and our client breakthroughs have been nothing short of AMAZING.

We combine that program with both in-home and virtual coaching with a focus on making things livable, not perfect. So many of the organizing shows and books create these unattainable images of what we should strive for. I’d rather you create a life that works for YOU, not something that looks “perfect.”

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
The biggest thing is to be flexible. Sometimes our thing we’ve been doing forever suddenly changes. I was doing in-home organizing for 15 years before the pandemic hit, and suddenly no one wanted me in their homes. Enter zoom and being nimble in adapting.

Part of that lesson was also to follow my gut. I’d been wanting to switch to digital offerings for a few years but went the “easy” route and didn’t learn how to migrate to digital until I was forced to. My business would have been pandemic-proof if I’d started making the switch when I first thought about it.
