Meet Kate Delos Santos

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kate Delos Santos.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m a 21 years old RnB artist. I was born and raised in San Diego, California. Growing up, I lived a pretty normal and suburban life. I was raised by two elementary school teachers as parents and they were always so supportive of whatever I wanted to learn or do. I have been performing on stage since I can remember. I think my first solo performance was when I was six years old maybe. I also was super involved in choir and theater in high school and it taught me a lot of what I know today as an independent artist. I started officially putting music on all streaming platforms about three years ago and it’s been going pretty well! On January 13th, 2022 I will be releasing my second project, “Atypical” produced by myself and my younger brother Chris Delos Santos.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s been hard to execute a lot of the things I had hoped to do within the past few years due to covid. In a way, it forced me to go on a different path than what I had originally planned- which is totally fine. I’ve had a lot of time to reflect on my art and freely create in solitude. As an independent artist with no management or team, I really am just doing this on my own and although it comes with its challenges, it is incredibly rewarding.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
The songs I write are basically a reflection of stories and moments I encounter on a day to day basis. I feel like when I post new music, it’s like I am posting pages from my diary on the internet. Creating these sounds are super cathartic to me and it’s ultimately like a form of therapy. I use songwriting and singing to help digest all the emotions I feel. I have a lot of passion and drive for what I do. I find myself restless pondering all the creative endeavors I dream to embark on. This year I have been writing and producing my upcoming seven songs project, “Atypical”. I also had the opportunity to film my first ever official music video for the project which will debut at my release party on January 13th.

I am known for lush, melodic RnB. My music is heavily inspired by 90s RnB, Jazz and hip hop. I love to experiment with fusion between genres.

This year I also started this weekly Spotify playlist called “Atypical RADIO”. The playlist is a space to celebrate and shout out local/independent artists.

What are your plans for the future?
I am excited for 2022. I have so much planned for the year and I finally get to share my project with the world. My listening/release party is definitely a big focus in my life right now. It will be my first event I’m ever throwing and it also happens to be on my 22nd birthday which is pretty cool.

I have tons of releases planned for this new year and I am excited to build more connections within the art scene here in San Diego.
