Meet Katelyn Jamison

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katelyn Jamison.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I’ve always had the urge to be creative- if it’s been too long since I’ve made something, I start to feel restless. I’ve dabbled with all sorts of crafty things through the years, but this particular venture started after having our first child. I had decided not to go back to my career in banking in order to stay home with our son, however he was such an easy baby that I had plenty of time to pick up new hobbies. I started sewing baby items like bibs and hats while he napped, which eventually turned into opening an Etsy shop. After my daughter was born, my interests began shifting more towards girly accessories rather than fabric baby items. Since then, I’ve really enjoyed the process of letting my creativity and interests guide the evolution of my finished products.

Please tell us about your art.
I make handcrafted accessories for women of all ages, including several styles of bows, purses and earrings. I create them using a variety of materials, including genuine leather, glitter canvas and faux leather. All of my pieces are limited as I rarely make more than five of the same items. Every couple of months, I create a collection of Snap Clips where the proceeds are donated to different childhood cancer charities- I call these my “Snap Clips for a Cure”. My youngest brother recently wrapped up three plus years of treatment for Leukemia and his struggle has inspired me to get involved and help bring awareness to everything these kids and their families experience while they are fighting.

As an artist, how do you define success and what quality or characteristic do you feel is essential to success as an artist?
For me, success is always trying to reach your next goal. Whether that be something small like bringing a new product to life from just an idea in your head, or something large like eventually opening up a brick and mortar shop- creating goals gives us direction and keeps us moving forward. It can be so hard to stay motivated when everyone is always showing off only their best moments on social media. It is tough to not compare yourself to others, which is why it is so important to stay in your own lane, focus on what your own goals are, and let your creativity lead you.
