Today we’d like to introduce you to Katelyn McCullough.
Katelyn, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
The idea for Elwynn + Cass stemmed from personal experience. Over the years, my mother and I had tried to figure out who to go to for beauty services when getting ready for events. We found there was a lot of guesswork and time involved and ultimately not really knowing if the artists we chose were going to do a good job. 6 months after I graduated college, we started Elwynn + Cass, a beauty concierge service to alleviate this issue. We are basically beauty planners for all types of events (weddings, parties, corporate events, & brands), and handle all of the stress that can come from planning beauty services. We personally match artists best suited to the client based on the experience they are looking for and make sure that the experience is stress-free from start to finish.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I wouldn’t say starting any business is ever smooth, but the challenges along the way have the business better and we always learn from them. Finding our niche took some time and it wasn’t after we got referred for a birthday party, that we realized special events is more where our services are best utilized. Making sure that the personality and context of our brand is conveyed through our content is always on the forefront of our minds as we want to make sure that our clientele understands all that we can offer them.

We are beauty planners for special events, including weddings, parties, corporate events, and brands, so we handle all of the guesswork and stress of planning beauty services. This includes matching artists best suited to the client’s needs, as well as, their budget.
We are most known for our personalized approach, in the case that we genuinely get to know our clients and what their needs are prior to setting up any beauty services for them, as we want to ensure it’s the best fit on both sides. Another aspect we are known for is an experience option we offer, with our mobile beauty lounge, which is based out of a retrofitted airstream. It is fully self-contained and equipped with styling stations, a lounge area, A/C, and music. It’s a really fun amenity for those events wanting something completely unique.
We are most proud of the unique experiences we are able to create for clients. It’s those moments that are unforgettable and leave a lasting impression. These have included custom and personalized beauty bars at events, with makeup artists to apply glitter and hairstylists to do braids or styling. Everything can be customized, which is what makes it so fun.
It’s all been a privilege to have worked with some many great brands, such as Nordstrom, NYDJ, Kendra Scott, Stagecoach Music Festival and more.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was a major tomboy. I loved sports (still do), and would rather play in the mud or on the playground than wear dresses. I didn’t really get into makeup until high school and even now, I love what I do, but am very simplistic and natural when it comes to my beauty routine. Without a doubt, I was and still am a driven person and a perfectionist by nature. I strive the do the best that I can in everything that I do, and so I apply this to my business now and building it up to its full potential.
