Today we’d like to introduce you to Katherine Brock.
Katherine, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I began my yoga and meditation practice in 2000 and started instructing yoga full time in 2005. In 2010, I started teaching for the US Navy on the USS Ronald Reagan. I found my purpose and passion was to serve those who serve, giving back to those who deserved it so much. That leads me to my work at Naval Bases in Coronado and developing yoga and meditation program for the Navy SEALS. I traveled around the country and internationally educating and training our military to practice mindfulness and mobility. I felt our community needed a special space to grow roots. I opened The Studio On Palm in Imperial Beach near the Silver Strand South Training Campus in 2015 and while our community consists mostly of military families is also civilian and locals. We have grown so much over the past few years and call the studio team members & regular practitioners family.
Has it been a smooth road?
Imperial Beach is a quiet and sometimes sleepy little beach town so it took a little while for people to know we were here. I knew there was a great need for a healthy spot in Imperial Beach for locals to gather and feel a sense of community. One by one and two by two people started coming into the studio, made lasting friendships, and developed a healthy lifestyle, calling the studio their home away from home.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
The Studio On Palm specializes in Yoga and Meditation classes. We offer a well-rounded schedule with everything from Restorative Yoga to Pilates and Barre, Yoga Sculpt (with weights and bands) and Hot Power Vinyasa. We have Aerial Yoga (suspended yoga in hammocks). We also have boxing and interval training. Our clients love the variety of classes. We have massage therapist and acupuncturist to work on tight knots out of tight, sore muscles and physical deficiencies to keep you feeling your best. You can grab a healthy snack and beverage to fuel you. We have a small boutique selling athletic wear and accessories to keep you looking your best.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Imperial Beach is one of the last little beach towns to grow and develop. Locals prefer to keep the growth slow and maintain the feel of the small town. We have honored that wish to keep our business small and cater to the surf culture, military community, and local families.
