Meet Kathryn Moore

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kathryn Moore.

Kathryn, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Oh my, I have too many details of a back story, but I’ll start somewhere…While I was in college full time, I was also working full time in the government sector with robotics doing project support and writing/editing technical articles for several years. I transitioned at some point over to health and research which was more aligned on the path I was going. However, instead of being hands-on, I was in HR creating job positions and putting impressive compensation packages together. Both areas were fascinating but by the time I graduated, I was already starting to burn out and questioning if pursuing the next degree for more research was where I wanted to be. but not where I ultimately wanted to land my feet in.

Fast forward a few more years and I found myself completely out of the government sector and taking a chance on supporting an online business that had just been around for a few years and was starting to pick up speed. I was a team of two supporting the CEO, and at her exec level, I did everything. The job allowed me to merge creativity with analytics and demanded speed. It was the most challenging yet rewarding experience.

Right before my son was born, I decided to focus on him and left my position to become a full time mom. It was so rewarding and at the same time, I still felt a calling to do more in my career. That’s when I opened my virtual services and started taking on a few clients. I was in search of finding a perfect balance between work and home. Eventually, I started contract work on some light projects with the previous employer that I had which then led to me switching back full time and growing to levels I couldn’t have dreamed up before.

Being in contribution to a wonderful community at work and watching it grow has been so amazing. What’s even been better is I’m still mom at home and still have the freedom of my own business too.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It wasn’t! Finding a balance between mother and business owner was rocky at first. (Shout out to my amazing husband who overflows with patience while I figured myself out – love YOU!) It’d be easy to say it takes a lot of attention to your multi-tasking, scheduling and planning, but really, it’s all about mindset and how you decide to show up. Lack of time is always the easiest argument that pops up in my head, but truly it’s commitment, choice and responsibility. We all have the same 24hrs in a day, it’s how we choose to utilize that time and show up.

I’ve seen several in this industry over time refer to their success too as being lucky. As nice as ‘luck’ sounds, it’s a fantastic concept to gamble your life experiences on. I truly believe we create our paths in life. When you treat everything on the idea of “I got lucky” or “I’m unlucky”, you’re passing ownership of your life on to something or someone else. You’re fostering your self-doubt. And I get it, it’s much easier to live in a story of unworthiness, but truly when you change that idea that everything that got you to this point in your life was based on good or bad luck, you are standing in your power and truly are the creator of your life.

I’m where I’m at today because I took chances, even when I was afraid, and trusted in myself. I’m where I’m at today because I choose to show up and be authentic with others. I’m where I’m at today because I took the risks and failures as opportunities to learn and grow.

Tell us about your business.
KM Virtual is a project managing based service which specializes in organizing projects, tasks and team in building out the milestones and tracking progress. Oftentimes for a lot of entrepreneurs are busy thinking about the next endeavor in their business (which they should) and rely on their team being solid in navigating the backend to make it happen. When you have a lot of projects at once, it can get either overwhelming or you’re finding several team members’ hands on the same project which becomes confusing and unproductive. I come in as support in organizing out those projects in steps, identifying the strengths of the team and guide them into lanes where they can collectively hit their goals not only sooner but in an effective way that it sets them up for success transitioning to the next project.

I think what sets me apart from others in the same line of work is that I’m always looking at the bigger picture, from the top down, and asking questions about how this experience is going to support their customers/clients in the long run. I’m a champion of working smarter, not harder, and am always educating myself on new methods to apply in both my business and the company I work for.

Plus, I’m also very humorous and truly believe that when you’re able to connect with your team in a humanly way, you create a much more cohesive environment. One that doesn’t put up walls or shutter out life.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
The next level for my business is opening more social media management opportunities. It is a feature I offer but have focused more of my time organizing clients’ teams and projects. I have a huge creative side to me and am always fascinated by the many avenues you can take for visibility and audience reach. I intend to offer more support in that area for clients to keep the needle moving for them!

Starting in 2020 I’ll be having a free resource section too on my site to support clients getting started with their teams. I intend to have a space for people who are just starting to have access to guides that will support them getting started now while they work on generating the income to truly create and maintain they support team they deserve!
